Question about 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Replaced spark plugs. Removed screws from cap, but cannot figure out how to physically remove the cap from the engine well. It seems to be hemmed in on all sides by something! Any help appreciated!

Once the screws are out, the cap should lift straight up unless someone glued it in place?
It usually helps to remove the plug wires from it but you must mark them so you know exactly where they go when putting them back on.

I have a 94 Nissan hard body cab in a half 4x4 3000 v6 I took the dust cap off and turned the motor to get at the rotor screw did I screw up by doing this

Do you mean you removed the distributor cap to work on the rotor inside the distributor? If you did not remove or loosen the distributor hold down bolt, you have done nothing that will affect spark timing or distribution. The distributor cap only fits on one way, so once you have replaced it and fastened it back down, your engine should run OK (if it was running OK before you removed the cap).

How to Replace a Distributor Cap in Toyota?

Its a plastic cap and and on its top the sparks wires get connected.A small plastic rotor spins inside the distributor cap, firing each spark plug as it rotates. If the distributor gets faulty there the engine may not perform well. in most cases it has been noticed that only replacing the cap does not helps but with cap the rotors also need to be replaced. The procedure is as follows:--- 1) First of all disconnect the negative battery terminal. 2) Then remove the spark-plug wires . Note:-- Before removing the spark plug wires please note down how and where the wires are connected,then only remove the connections. 3) Then on the distributor there will be a cap.remove that cap.the cap is connected by two will have to press the pins from each side to loosen the distributor cap.Then lift the distributor cap from the top. 4)Then remove the rotor From distributor The rotor is fitted with two screws.Remove the screws and loosen the rotor. 5) Then lift the rotor out from its shaft. 6) To install new rotor and cap.reverse the procedure. Check this procedure...
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If necessary, remove the air cleaner.
  3. Tag and remove the spark plug wires and the coil leads from the distributor.
  4. Unplug the electrical connector at the base of the distributor.
  5. Loosen the distributor cap fasteners and remove the cap.
  6. Using a marker, matchmark the rotor-to-housing and housing-to-engine block positions so that they can be matched during installation.
  7. Loosen and remove the distributor hold-down bolt.
  8. Remove the distributor from the engine.

Engine Not Disturbed
  1. Install the distributor in the engine making sure that the matchmarks are properly aligned.
  2. Install the hold-down bolt and tighten the bolt to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  3. Install the distributor cap and attach the electrical connector at the base of the distributor.
  4. Install the spark plug wires and coil leads.
  5. If removed, install the air cleaner assembly.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
Engine Disturbed
(see Figure)
  1. Remove the No. 1 cylinder spark plug. Turn the engine using a socket wrench on the large bolt on the front of the crankshaft pulley. Place a finger near the No. 1 spark plug hole and turn the crankshaft until the piston reaches Top Dead Center (TDC). As the engine approaches TDC, you will feel air being expelled by the No. 1 cylinder. If the position is not being met, turn the engine another full turn (360 degree). Once the engine's position is correct, install the spark plug.
  2. Using a long screwdriver, align the oil pump drive shaft in the engine in the mating drive tab in the distributor.
  3. Install the distributor in the engine.
  4. Install the distributor in the engine making sure that the matchmarks are properly aligned.
  5. Install the hold-down bolt and tighten the bolt to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  6. Install the distributor cap and attach the electrical connector at the base of the distributor.
  7. Install the spark plug wires and coil leads.
  8. If removed, install the air cleaner assembly.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.

The motor is turning over but not firing up. I removed a spark plug wire to see if it was getting spark, nothing. I then replaced the wire n removed the wire running to the coil, then i got sparks. I...

sounds like your rotor is bad, it does happen, and that would explain no spark to ignition wires to the plugs-look inside the distributor cap too, and replace it if you see moisture, hairline cracks, or the terminals are badly oxidized.

What is the firing order for the 1994 ford taurus 3.8 engine, have just replaced cap and rotor, need order, thought I marked them but engine will not start. Perhaps I was wrong in the order.

Not trying to insult your intelligence, I'm going to get pretty basic here,

Looking at the Front of the engine, the spark plug order is 1, 2, 3, and 4. Front to back.

Looking at the distributor, it has two mounting screws for the distributor cap. One is close to the engine, the other screw is on the other side.

Looking at the distributor cap screw, on the Far side away from the engine, Number 1 spark plug is on the tower to the Left of it.

To the right of this distributor cap screw, is Number 2 spark plug tower.
The rotor turns clockwise.

Again, looking at the distributor from a top view, there is a distributor cap screw at the top, (Close to engine), and a distributor cap screw at the bottom.

Drawing an imaginary line from the top screw to the bottom screw, Number 1 spark plug wire goes to the Left, of the bottom mounting screw.

Firing Order is 1-3-4-2
The rotor turns Clockwise, (To the right)

280Zx ignition problem

Your car should be a L-28 1,5,3,6,2,4 on the cap looking straight down at the cap:( the rotation on the cap is counter clock ways( release the distributor cap remove the 1 spark plug (1st plug closest to the front of the engine) remove the coil wire from distributor cap and ground on a stud sticking up on a bolt on engine. crank engine with a hand held starter switch. till crankshaft timing mark lines up on 8% after top dead center. remove remote start switch take a long screw driver and place it into the 1 spark plug hole (if the screw driver drops all more then 8 in. you are on exhaust stroke if it drops a couple in you are on compression stroke) it needs to be on compression stroke if it is not then remove screw driver and reconnect remote start switch. turn engine over till it has made 1 hole revaluation back to the mark on flywheel. remove remote start switch. place screw driver back into spark plug hole it should drop a couple inches. remove screw driver replace plug. and wire on spark plug now looking down at the distributor. the rotor should just be hitting the 1 spark plug going counter clock ways that post on the cap is 1 spark plug( place plug wires looking down at top of cap 1,5,3,6,2,4 on the block 1 ,2,3,4,5,6 replace cap and clamp . replace coil wire . remove vacuum advance, vacuum line and plug. loosen distributor. install a timing light and start engine . pointing timing light at crank shaft. you will see the timing mark on the crank shaft twist distributor til marks line up stop engine and tighten distributor recheck timing after tighten to make share it is still right you have about &% you can be advanced and still be ok replace vacuum and you shouls be all good.....

How to change the spark plugs in a 2006 Volkswagon Jetta

The solution is:

Engine cover removal: Fairly simple, I will try to explain this best I can without pictures. To start, you will want to remove the connecting air intake hoses (BIG tube looking thing on bottom right of the top of the engine) it is clamped down, just take some pliers and unclamp it to remove hose. Then the hose right next to that one (adjacent to the front bumber) You will need an star screw driver, if you look at the two screw's heads on either side of it you will know what i'm talking about. Then that comes off. Then there is a wire attached to the air intake hose, you must unconnect it, (I explained already how to take wires off in the spark plug section below, they are all the same) Next all you have to do is pull up on one side of the engine cover. (if you look at the back left of the cover you see what looks like a rubber gromet, kinda of look like you need to take that bolt off just to get anywhere.. you don't, that rubber peice acts as a snap on button say on your shirt perhaps) You pull hard enough it will come up, and there is four of those rubber gromet fasteners so just keep wiggling it and pulling until you get it off.

Spark Plug removal:

The spark plugs are located on the very top in plain sight of the engine, easy easy to get to.. you will see (not the actual spark plug just sitting there staring at you, they are under the caps) There are five caps all facing the same way and they have wire connections hooking to all of them. First you have to unconnect the wire to the cap. Take a skinny flat head screw driver.. and stick it in the middle of the wire housing (don't get confused, the housing is just the plastic piece that is black, it "houses" all the wires that power the spark plugs) The middle of the wire housing you will see a little perfect sqaure opening, there is a little clamp thing in there and with the screw driver all you do is put pressure upward (toward the back of your car) and pull at the same time and the housing will disconnect from the spark plug cap. Do this to all five caps.

Next the cap itself, is really easy to take out, just use that same flat head screw driver to kind of pry underneath the cap, don't be afraid to put pressure you won't break anything, Then the cap will come off and underneath the cap (attached to it) is the spark plug covers (acts like.. a battery in the remote) long metal tubular looking things.. if you see that, your doing good. Now look down into the whole you just removed the spark plug cover from, you will see the top of the spark plug down in there. Do this for all five caps.

Now you need tools, a medium size wratchet would do good. make sure you have a loong extension, and a deep well (long) socket (size in MM is 15 in standard 9/16 or one higher) loosen (lefty loosey, righty tighty) the spark plug until you can pull it out with the wratchet.. discard old, put in new spark plug, tighten but not tight tight.. do that for all five spark plugs.. once new spark plug is in, put the spark plug cover and cap combo back into the whole ( MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN IT AND THE WHOLE OUT BEFORE HAND) then just apply little pressure and the cap will set back into place (just make sure it is facing the way it was before) then connect the wiring back to the end of the cap (just slide it on and push it will "click" into place) do that for all .. then put your engine cover back on, reconnect the hoses and the wire on top of the hose. You are then good to go.
