Starter problems, Suggestions???

Starters tend to fail intermittently. Yes, if it started after a "whack", I woul suggest replacing your starter. Make sure all connections are tight and of course clean terminals and cables.

Trying to find fusable link in 97 honda civic dx. Starter and the solenoid are good, but still no power, no turn over, just plain dead everywhere.

There are none. It uses maxi fuses, not fusible links. Here are the two fuses to check that supply power to the ignition switch: fuse 41, an 80 amp battery fuse, and fuse 42, a 40 amp IG1 fuse (ignition 1).

Hyundai accent 2001 will not start all lights work radio works heater fan works battery in 3 months old when I turn the key all i hear is a humming sound for about 1 min. than nothing. weather has be

The humming would be the fuel pump coming on. It should only hum for a few seconds, then shut off.
Your problem is with the start circuit from the battery to the starter, or from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid. Check the connections at the starter (the big cable) for tightness.
Is the battery charged up enough to turn the engine over? Check by turning headlights on and observe while someone turns key to crank. If they dim a LOT, then either battery is too low, or the starter is bad and needs removing for testing. If brightness doesn't change, then the circuit from ignition switch to starter solenoid is likely not working. Check for 12 volts at the small wire to starter solenoid with key in cranking position. If you have power there, the solenoid may be bad. Remove starter for testing. If no power at solenoid in starting position, then either the ignition switch is bad or the neutral safety switch might be the problem, or the wiring from the switch to the starter solenoid is not passing current.
Good luck.

Battery good. lights , radio works. turn switch to crank nothing happens

Tap on the starter solenoid with a hammer when someone else is trying to start the car, if that works you need a starter. If that doesn't work you will need to start checking for power and ground at the starter and working your way back through the ignition system.

The starting system's pretty simple. If you're getting no voltage to the solenoid wire when you turn the key, then the fuse is burned out, the starter switch is bad, or a starter relay is bad.

If it's an automatic, the neutral switch could be bad or misaligned. Hold the key in the start position and jiggle the shifter around. Try starting it in "N" instead of "P". Try forcibly pushing the shifter past "P" while you try to start it.

If it's a 5-speed, the clutch interlock switch could be toast. Try holding the key in the start position and push the clutch pedal up and down, including hard to the floor. Look under the dash at the switch, make sure it's not physically broken and the wires are attached.

Check all the fuses.

Find the starter relay. If there's another relay just like it there in the relay panel, swap them. If the car turns over after that, go buy a new relay.

If you just need to get to work right now, use a piece of jumper wire from the + terminal of the battery to the starter solenoid terminal on the starter and start the engine that way, just make sure the key's on, the parking brake is set, and it's in neutral!

My 97 Honda Civic runs good and up until now, no problems, but when I turn on the key to start it, nothing happens. Have new battery, fully charged, lights on dash do not go off when I turn key to start. ...

Bypass the clutch switch. If the car starts then replace the switch.
If this will not work, then you need to troubleshoot the starter, from the fuse up to solenoid. Might be anything from a bad fuse, bad relay, bad solenoid, corroded starter copper contacts, or a bad starter. Hope this will help.

Check, clean and tighten your battery posts, and the power connection to the starter and ground. Make certain the battery is good and charged, Perhaps you have a bad starter motor, or the engine is frozen (will not turn over). I think the ignition switch is okay, because your lights dim when you try to start. This indicates power is getting to the starter (at least some).

Starting problems

Verify the engine will rotate by hand with a wrench on the front pulley make sure it will turn all the way around at least two full turns if so make sure the starter positive cabel has good voltage and nothing is corroded, nedt make sure the starter "S" wire which is the one that gets power when you turn the ignition has power when you try to start if so the starter is bad and if not then the neutral start switch if its and automatic is bad or the clutch start switch if its a manual transmission
