Engine cranks, runs for 1 or 2 seconds and then stops.

Two items to check. The crankshaft sensor will reduce fuel pump pressure if it miscounts the RPM. The plastic strainer in the fuel tank can break apart and clog the pump intake in the tank. When the engine quits, the fuel pump is stopped and the loose particles are returned to the tank bottom.

In either case, try checking the fuel pressure at the test tap on the fuelrail.

Engine flooding

Check the fuel pressure. The pressure regulator may have gone bad and is delivering too much pressure to the fuel rail, thereby flooding the engine.

How to change 1984 chrysler new yorker 2.6l from an electric fuel pump to a mechanical fuel pump.

Replace the mechanical pump with a new unit and that will remove any reason of broken/failure from the equation. Remove the electric pump altogether and leave 1 filter in the line before the mechanical pump. Mechanical pumps are not in favour with some people who have no idea that they can be adjusted to give more pressure and greater volume for the bigger capacity engines. Some mechanical pumps are more expensive to repair / replace but if you price an electric pump to supply the volume that a properly adjusted or a larger capacity mechanical pump then the cost saving is minimal. Unless you get a fuel filter that is rated with a smaller micron rating than the standard filter any number of filters will not work as the smallest particle will get through the lot

sure the 77 models have the earyest kind of electronic ightion and it needs to be checked to see if it's working. The distruber pickup fails, the timing chain fails and the distubutor does'nt turn as the engine turns, the coil does'nt get power from the key as a connection broke or the ingine ballast resitior failed. the igtion module fails too.159097116.jpg893555968.jpg78413573.jpg337676466.jpgThis module over the life of Ford motor company has cause the physdo-yne Found On the Road Dead Antother words lots of Fords quit and the days of youre mechanics would say that blue gromet module has left another car on the side of the road.

If the fuel pump is going bad will the truck even run??? Is`nt it either good or bad?

When the fuel pump is bad, there is not a sufficient amount of fuel going to the engine. The motor will starve for fuel. This will cause the car not to start or not stay running when it does start.

My fuel pump keeps running fuel rail up to pressure even after the car has been stopped. i cant find any leaks and thought the pump should stop after turning off ignition. any ideas

The fuel pump relay has to be checked.Usually, when this relay fails it gets stuck in the on position, allowing the fuel pump to continue running even though the car is turned off.Fuel pump relay is under dash above E-brake. Fuel pump relay has 2 White with black stripe wires thar are 12 volt with ignition on.

Yes fuel should come out when the pump is running. There is a little sock or filter at the end of the pick up tube in the fuel tank that feeds the fuel pump. This screen is very fine to filter out small particles. This sock is probably plugged up. To fix you will need to drop the fuel tank remove the sock and then clean out the debris from the tank. Even though the gas stations run filters off their pumps you still get floaters in your tank from the gas stations and if you tend to run your tank low always your sock will plug up eventually. If you turn the vehicle off it may restart again until the sock plugs again and then shut down.

My truck runs fine then it will quit. I may have to sit for 2 minutes of up to an hour, then it will start and run fine, maybe a week or two then it happens again. I've replaced the fuel pump, coil, and...

Did you replace the fuel filter? Sometimes the fuel filter will have particles in it which when under pressure will sit against the filter media and slow down or stop the flow of fuel. when this occurs your fuel pressure drops and is inadequate to run the injection system. when the key is turned off, the fuel pump stops and the fuel pressure is reduced allowing the particles to settle to another position in the filter. Once the particles have settled the fuel will flow until the particles are agitated, either by fuel flow or driving vibrations causing them to plug the filter again and starving the injection system of fuel. I'm just guessing, but this may be your problem. I had a similar problem in a suburban. Come to find out the fuel in my area has higher than normal particulate, or is dirty. The dealer recommendation was to change fuel filter every 5000 miles. hope this helps
