It could be linkage. There is also a gear/speed sensor, which I believe is usually attached on the transmission and not too difficult to reach, but could be bad also. That would cause a symptom such as yours also if it were bad.Basically all or nothing. As far as fixing roadside, you will likely need to lift the car with a hydraulic jack,NOT a tire change jack, and at least support the 2 tires in the air with something heavy duty enough to hold it.If there is much clearance underneath though, you may not need to lift it.If you get AAA plus, they will tow it free up to 100 miles.Regular AAA only tows 5 miles. My premium is about $90/year but i would imagine a stretch would be more.If the side road is paved pretty far in,you could do it.If it is dirt,I personally wouldn't do it.If you have any questions or need more help, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.I really encourage responses so I can follow up properly as I know where you stand and asking someone else restarts all the explaining because we cannot see other 'Expert's' responses.Good luck,Greg

My 1999 Lincoln Towncar will not let me switch gears from the park setting to drive. How can we fix this cheaply?

Look at the swith on the brake pedal, it shoud have two green wires on it. Make sure it is not melted or the wire is broken. If it is damaged you can connect the 2 wires together to get it into gear, but this should be temporary as it bypasses the neutral safety switch

Hi:
You should be able to use factory original airbags in your stretch limo, because of all the modifying is done in the middle/rear of the car, and the front part is still original, other than suspension upgrades.
