Resolving a clunking in front end of a ford tarus 2002 a consistant clunking over bumps. sounds like the front end is going to come apart.


Lower control arm bushings and lower ball joints can cause a noise like this. But I have fixed a few that sounded like the front end was falling offf. It turned out to be the air conditioning plenum under the dash. There is a tube that comes loose some how. this tube stretches all the way across the dash. you can see part of it under the drivers side, it disappears in the center. I take a piece of thick foam and wedge it under the tube towards the center column. Most times this gets rid of the noise or most of it. No one wanted to pay to take apart the dash to fix the passenger side.

Reinstalled front sway bar with new OEM end links and new rubber bushings both sides . it now clunks ... knocks r and r 3 more times and can't get it right


Have you inspected to see if it is possibly something else making the noise? Check and make sure that your control arm bushings are in good condition as they will clunk if they are worn. Also check to see if the coil springs on your front strut assembly are ok, if broken these can also make a clunk or pop sound. Did you loosen off the stabilizer shaft clamp at all?

Front driver side creaks, pops,clunks and makes all sorts of frightening sounds . The truck is an early 1996 F150 4x4.


probably the bracket and/or bushings that connects the trailing arm from the frame to the front axel,a new bracket alone is about $35.00 at Ford and the new bushings is about $20.00,its alot of work to change these parts.

Clunking in front passenger side of car and is not the strut


Check the stablizer arms. Its the thick metal rod that runs from one control arm to the other. They have rubber bushings and a bolt that goes through the middle of them. Those bushings go bad and you get your metal clunk sound.

When i hit the brakes hard and fast the front end makes a clunk noiseon the driver side.


the most probable cause of that clunk is the radius arm bushings need replacing i have done LOTS of those . if you are not a mechanic or have limited skill this repair is fairly difficult..( not being rude just trying to save you a headache ) the radius arm extends rearward from front axle to frame..one on each side . look at the bushings where it goes through the frame bracket there should be a rubber bushing on both sides of that frame bracket and they should be compressed with no gap.. i hope that helps

The rods that connect the K-member (subframe) to the lower control arms are called "strut rods". Your local auto parts store should carry the bushings.

it sounds like the radis arm bushing are wore out they are the arms that go between the frt. axle to the frame they have round bushings that are bolted the the frame rails just behind the frt tires.

2001 Tarus clunking sound


very common problem is the sway bay end links that attach to the strut from the sway bar. They sound like a light chuckling knock over bumps. The bushings that hold the subframe up wear or the bolts loosed due to the bushings wearing. usually the rear ones The bushings are 2 piece ,upper and lower Tighten with 18mm socket
