Gear shift wont move after i start the car - Maxima Nissan Cars & Trucks

There could be a safety interlock to prevent the gear lever being moved from P or N until the brake pedal is pressed.

Your gear shift won't move because there is an interlock which prevents taking your car out of PARK unless your foot is on the brake. Since the release solenoid is electric, and you appear not to have any electricity, you will not be able to move the shift lever unless you use the Emergency Release (described in your Owner's Manual).
As to your lack of power, perhaps a dead battery? (Good place to start checking!)

you can shift it at transmission by hand to neutral or park and have someone inside start the car and you manually put in gear under hood and drive it to shop or garage, wherever

Do you feel any resistance in the gear selector when shifted through gears?

First check the trans fluid (if its not a sealed transmission). They wont shift in gear if they are to low. If that is fine, The shift solenoid has most likley gone bad.

If it pulls in 1st gear and wont shift it will be a fuse or a shifting switch in the pan of the trans

Are you saying the automatic transmission will not shift into gear or the shifter won't move into the correct position?

It sounds like you have transmission problems but it could be that your linkage is loose or defective. Not enough information to give you a good starting place.

did you check that you still have brake lights ?

Ford has the shift interlock, so if you loose brake lamps, the shifter will not move out of park.

Quick test, turn the key to the on position ( do not start ), and see if the gear shifter will move to neutral.

You need to check the linkage. Under the car, the section that connects the gear shift stick to the transmission rods.
