It has something called a 'hot fuel module', but no idea what that is.

According to this it is a know issue and the gauge has a reset procedure.

How do you reset the fuel gauge on a Chevy Suburban?

Press and hold the "Trip/Odo" button. Turn the ignition switch on and hold the "Trip/Odo" switch for about two seconds. it is normally up by the thermostat and try www.autozone.com to see if they have your car listed for diagrams pictures and step by step instructions if your car is not listed then try your local library they have all the car manuals and even copy them for you

Go to autozone.com, in their repair section do a search on wiring diagrams.
