are you sure that its getting to much fuel? all of the injectors fire at the same time when starting instead of sequentially. you might want to check to make sure its getting a good spark and also check the compression and timing. its probably not a fuel issue unless the fuel pressure is to high for some reason.

Hello Velma!

It sounds like ther might be an intermittent ignition (spark) problem... when the plugs don't fire, they will get wet with fuel...
So check all of the ignition components, make sure there are no loose connections to the coils are plug wires.

It is also possible that there might be a problem in the fuel injection, such as an injector stuck open and continuously feeding fuel to its cylinder (which would show as only ONE plug being wet), or possibly a bad fuel pressure regulator, letting fuel pressure in the injector rail go too high and causing an over-rich mixture and engine flooding (symptomatic of ALL plugs being wet).

Once the engine is "flooded" it is sometimes hard to "clear" the engine with modern injection systems, but try this: Hold the accelerator to steadily to the floor while cranking --- DO NOT PUMP THE PEDAL! --- This will allow the maximum amount of air to mix with the overage of fuel in the cylinders and help the engine to eliminate the excess without also adding too much back in...

If you still can't get it to fire off doing the above, then remove the fuel pump relay or fuse and repeat the above until the engine tries to run.... It will run briefly until it fuel starves and dies. Then replace whichever you removed and try starting again with fuel delivery back in service.

Velma, I would have answered this sooner, but I've been on a "road trip" and only recently got back home. If you still have problems, please post a comment describing as best you can the situation --- you have to be my eye, ears, nose, and hands in this long distance effort! Also let me know why the head gasket blew, if known... Racing or overheating? If this does help, please remember to rate my assistance --- your approval is my ONLY compensation for providing this help!

Thanks!

My head gasket blew out so i did that and it never turned back on so i did the timing chain and nothing so i put fuel filter nothing new plugs and still get it what else could or be

Year make and model ?
It takes spark, fuel, and compression at the right time for an engine to run. So you are probably missing one or more of these three things.
Have you checked compression on all cylinders ? Is the cam timing correct ? Do you have fuel and spark ?

After so many over heats.a car sometimes cant handle.
after constant over heating your cars rubber gaskets could have gone bad and turned brittle letting in oil into spark plug well #1
for your spark plug problem i would recommend changing your valve cover gaskets.
and for the over heating and not turning on.
i believe you blew a head gasket.

Car cranks but doesn't start

Are you getting spark and are you getting fuel you should find that one or the other is not working. Start with this check and go from there.

car overheated can cause failure at the head gasket.Overheated till the car just stops can cause ring failure thus no compression and worped head.car will not run in some cases.

Car turns over but does not start. Battery good

If it over heated, could have bad head gasket's, fill radiator with water, crank engine with radiator cap off, if water is push out of radiator while cranking, bad head gaskets', also remove spark plug's, crank engine if any water, bad head gasket, also when spark plug's removed, check for any water on them.If there is any water on plug's, bad head gasket, also could try doing a cylinder compression test, if bad compression, head gasket, no compression, wont start that way.

I have a 98 grand am blew a head gasket, ive had the heads reworked and new gaskets now the car doesn't start, just turns over. what could be the problem?

Check if you have spark at the spark plug. Go buy yourself one plug. Take any plug wire off plug in engine. Attach plug wire to new plug and touch a ground on engine with new plug threaded side. Have someone start engine and watch for spark. If spark exsist, look for fuel problem.

Car will not start. It is getting fuel and has spark. It does turn over and tries to start but will not start.

If it is getting fuel (with good fuel pressure) and spark (blue), then your problem is either timing related which could come from a snapped timing belt, or compression related which could be due to a blown head gasket. In which case you would replace the timing belt or replace the head gasket respectively.

Replaced head gasket.car won't start. plugs have spark, timing is correct but car won't start. do you have to bleed the elec. fuel injection system or reset it some how? it's a 22rec engine

is fuel pump workin or the fuel pressure regulator-can disconnec lines to see--are heads torqued on properly for no compression leak-in manual--sure timing is correc?
