Question about 2004 Suzuki Verona

1 Answer

I have a 2004 Suzuki Verona 6 cylinder. The check engine light is on. When scanned the codes P0171 & P0174 shows up. The codes represent banks 1 & 2 are lean. Since this is an EFI engine, how I can I adjust the lean condition?

Your codes for banks 1 and 2 are consistent with both sides of the exhaust monitoring, meaning the cause is most likely related to aging spark plugs that are not combusting the fuel properly. it could also be the fuel pressure, this too will cause a lean condition (rich command) to the PCM.

Codes 171 174 for 2005 suzuki verona l6 2.5 litre engine

ever give it a tune up this in the last 9 years.????
ah the 2.5, i have one too, the 2.5. and know it well.
i have the real FSM on this engine.
p0171 and p0174 (the zero counts) 02 reads lean, and LTFT slams to rail errors.

The FSM is clear, both banks are lean. BOTH is a key fact.
lean has many reasons, a mech , never just guesses why, there are 10 causes. or more.
what I do is get the engine fully hot.
Using any real scan tool (yes, you need a scan tool to fix all modern cars):
1: is the ECT showing over 180f +coolant temp? sure.
2: is the engine holding Closed loop at idle? no, fix that first.
3: i see LTFT , is trying to correct gloss lean. (bingo)
LTFT = long term fuel trim,
4: EGR cleaned, Does it leak.?
5: is the MAF dirty, the MAF sensor can go weak dirty and can cause low fueling , in FACT the MAF is the top fuel rate, device on this engine. 02 sensors are fine trim.
6: intake air leaks. any leaks cause lean.
7: low fuel pressure. for any reasons.

you posted only 2 codes.
and no driving symptoms, so ....????
loss of power WOT? wide open throttle?

the MAF is here.
http://www.fixkick.com/engine/2.5L%202004%20Tracker/25L-2004-engine.pdf

page 34 , see it in the TB?
suzuki dont sell it,
take it off, and gently from 12inches away (never dead close at straw tip)
spray CRC maf cleaner on it , let it sit 1min, repeat and put it back.
i thne look for intake air leaks. under the TB side.
TB to the intake, and the whole behind TB side.
ok no leaks there.
i then check fuel pressure with a REAL guage.

that is just a start. we can take this to any conclusion
based on all tests. so far. then more tests. if need be.
this is called DIAGNOSIS.

2004 suzuki verona emissions issue. Check engine light stays on. Shows no error codes, says mixture lean. Can you give a solution?.

A few things to check:
1. A bad intake manifold gasket
2. A missing O ring gasket between the air filter cover & the MAF sensor.
3. A dirty fuel filter.

What's the code? P0171 & P0174 would indicate a vacuum leak. P0171 could be the MAF sensor. Good luck, I'm still fixing all my Verona's annoying "quirks".

Check engine light with codes P0171 & P0174, hesitation at accelleration 2001 mercury sable.

P0171 & P0174 indicate Lean burning on banks 1 and 2. The most common cause is a dirty or defective MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. Other causes are bad fuel filters or a broken vacuum line.

Ford ranger engine codes P0171 &P0174 ?

Hi hope I can help.
P0171 mean bank 1 is to lean
P0174 means bank 2 is lean
You did not state what engine you have but by your codes you must have the V6 4.0.
These codes refer to a fuel issue. bank 1 and bank two represent each of your manifolds.
being you have a V6 you have 2 manifolds.
Each of your manifold have an O2 sensor in it. That's what is giving the lean reading.
This does not mean that you have bad O2 sensors.
They are just doing there job.
So you should check your fuel pressure with a gauge and make sure your pressure is correct.
It seams as your fuel pump maybe weak.
Hope this helps.

Went to autozone because check engine light is on so they did the trouble shooting and the code was p0174 but he put it was a kia and not a suzuki and it the probable cause is:661-662-663-664..so what...

P0174 is a "generic" code, meaning it's the same meaning for all OBD II cars (every model year '96 and later).

It is system too lean (BANK 2)

System Too Lean (Bank 2)
What does that mean?

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 2 is generally the side of the engine that doesn't have cylinder #1.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0171, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.
FB.init("dd7d9e9681341cde77587bc6a2029f6f"); OBD-Codes.com on Facebook Symptoms

You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a lack of power, detonation (spark knock), and/or a hesitation/surge on acceleration.
Causes

A code P0174 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filtersmag-glass_10x10.gif can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
  • There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.
Possible Solutions

Possible solutions include:

  • In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
  • Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
  • Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressuremag-glass_10x10.gif

P0171 indicates a lean condition. The most common cause of this is a defective mass air flow sensor. Also check if any vacuum leaks. P0174 OBD-II Trouble Code

Technical Description

System Too Lean (Bank 2)

What does that mean?

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust.
