Question about 1998 Audi A6

1 Answer

Hi hoping someone can help me on this one. I bought a 51 plate A6 avant about 4 months ago and today the dreaded faulty drivers window has just occurred, it seemed to start sticking on the way up and was intermittently going back down when it met resistance, along with this it sounded as if a slight crunching sound was causing some kind of resistance. I viewed a number of a6’s before buying this face lift model and the drivers window sticking seemed to be synonymous with the model (most of the ones I viewed had this fault) I was under the impression that this common fault was remedied by the time the model was given a facelift but obviously not! I have been on a few forums and one has pointed the motor and another to the switch but it sounds to me that something is caught in the window track, hope someone can point me in the right direction before I take the door card off and start to have a poke around. Many Thanks Richard

I believe my glow-plug relay is faulty - but I cannot locate it! Can you say where it is? The car is an N-reg Audi A6 Avant Estate 2.5TDi. My Haynes book does not help!

The glow plug relay is placed inside car on the fuse box & relay plate - fascia 2. The glow plug relay is no.# 4. See pictures below:

2000 A6 avant. 3 windows open and close but driver's window won't close. Passenger window also went down of its own accord but went back up using switch.

sounds like your window switch is faulty, if you take it to a garage or an auto electrician they will be able to test the switch and the motor

Hi my MMI system on 2004 A6 asgone dead, no power

No solution, same problem, but had many strange moments: 4 months ago during 100 kms or so it stopped, then suddenly came back, and worked ever since. A few days ago, it started happening again: NAV stuck, then radio dead, and gradually the rest disappeared. I did a Reset, and since that moment I see the intro-screen and then it goes black. Hitting the TEL button is somehow also a Reset...

Do the previous 2 posters have anything to report on this matter? It would be VERY welcome!

Thanks,
Jeff

I need to know how to replace a brakelight for a 2004 Audi A6

is it an avant or sedan? for the avant you should have a small round tab that you can pull off and use a phillips or small socket some are different.unscrew the bolt behind the tab and very carefully pull the housing out. pinch the tabs on the bad of the assembly that are sticking out that will reveal the bulbs. for the sadan there should be a large flap in just behind where the lights are pull that bak and there is the same backing plate pinch the tabs and there you go. Hope that helps Good luck

1998 A6 avant . Electric window fault .

There definitely will be a fuse in the circuit. If you don't know the location of the fuse block, I suggest you buy a manual for your car from Haynes which will contain all such detail and will answer many future questions too.
There is also a relay you need to locate that powers the window circuit when the vehicle is operating which may be in the same housing with the fuse block.
