The right outside mirror is just bolted on the door with three nuts. Remove the panel on top the door panel and then remove the insulator behind there and then you can get to the nuts to remove the mirror.

You will have to place your fingers behind the old mirror as far back as possible in the center and pull the old mirror straight off. Then inspect the clips where the new mirror will clip on the housing for any damage. Align the new mirror up with the snap-fit hooks with the adjuster mechanism ramps. Gently press the mirror on the adjuster mechanism with the palm of your hand and pressing in the center of the mirror. Using the palm of your hand you should rotate the glass about the glass pivot until it snaps into place.

In addition to the chat, hope this helps (remember to rate this answer).

How do I remove the mirror on the driver's side of the car and replace it with a new mirror?

p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; }

Steps to follow

1.Buy the replacement mirror, making sure that it is an exact match to your vehicle's make, model and year. You can order it through your dealership. If you'd like to save more money, you can order a mirror online or buy one from a junkyard or a salvage yard that sells auto parts.

2.Roll down your window and shut your vehicle off.

3.Disconnect the battery's negative cable. This is important, because there is a risk of electrocution if you do not perform this step.

4.Take off the interior door panel by using your pry tool to remove the trim pieces. Then use the screwdriver to remove the screws holding the panel in place. You may have to remove a corner trim piece before the door panel lifts off.

5.Unplug the wiring harness if you have power-controlled mirrors. If you have manual roll-down windows, skip this step.

6.Take out the mirror bolts with either a socket wrench or a nut driver, so that you can remove the entire mirror assembly from the car.

7.Separate the actual mirror from the mirror assembly. Use a torx driver to extract the screws, and then pry the plastic tabs on the backing until the two pieces separate.

8.Attach the new mirror to the assembly by snapping it onto the backing with the tabs.

9.Put the new mirror, attached to the backing, into the mirror assembly.

10.Reverse the steps to reinstall the entire mirror assembly back onto the vehicle.

With the door open, remove the interior door panel, this will expose the nuts and or screws holding the side view mirror in place. Remove these and reverse the process to install the new mirror.

I need to replace passenger side mirror on 97 ford expedition

Both above answers are not right... I just replaced the Pass side power mirror assembly on my 97 Expedition. No heat, no directional.
The inside door panel must come off.
1. pry off interior triangular plastic trim piece inside of door at mirror area. Remove door panel screw at this area.
2. Pry off power window switch panel and remove door panel screw at this area.
3.Remove interior door light cover and remove screw at this area.
4. Remove plastic cover at door handle.
5. The interior door panel can now be lifted up to release it from it's fasteners.
6. Disconnect light and push power window switch assembly through the door panel and it can be set aside.
7. Disconnect mirror power at coupler.
8 Loosen three mirror mounting screws with 7/16 socket. DO NOT unscrew completely.. the will fall down the door cavity. Use a round magnet on holder to remove the screws completely.
9.Thread electrical connection into door panel and install mirror.
10. Smile when mirror works and drink a beer!
