Question about 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

1 Answer

My 2004 Chevy Trailblazer transmission seems to be slipping while I accelerate in first gear. The strange part is that it only does it when I am turning. I took it to a transmission shop and they said the tranmission was fine. Could there be a bad traction control sensor or something? I didn't think I even had traction control on this truck.

Did you ever figure out the problem?

I am having this same problem with mine and I mainly notice this when the car is cold. Curious to know if you ever figured anything out

Do you have 4WD selected? When in 4WD and turning there is some resistance in the drivetrain.

Have you checked transmission fluid recently. If the levels are low and/or if the dipstick smells burnt, there is a good chance your transmission is shot. Check it out & let me know; may have another idea if the fluid level checks out.

The end of the shift cable has broken, there is a plastic ring at the transmission end of the cable that breaks. You will need to have it towed to the mechanic.

Transmission seems to slip slightly when transitioning into overdrive. Feels like a 'fish bite'. No 'service engine light' on, no misfire of any cylinders, no codes found. All other gears work smoothly...

I am surprised the AAMCO techs have no ideas about this. This "slipping" could be caused by the overdrive system having a mechanical problem (e.g. sticking solenoid, leaking seal) when trying to engage or disengage.
The overdrive solenoid locks the torque converter when activated, and releases when deactivated, both starting to happen when the vehicle is above about 40 mph and depending on what the vehicle is doing at the time (accelerating, decelerating or coasting). When you depress the accelerator and the solenoid is engaged at close to this speed, it should immediately release, and then re-engage when you stop accelerating, and you should immediately feel a light "bump" each time, not a "fish bite".

I am driving in the mountains, with a lot of luggage/etra weight. My car seems to not catch gear when accelerating

Check your transmission fluid for colour and odor. It should be pink and smell like oil. If it is brownish or smells burnt then it needs to be chan ged right away with a new filter and gasket. You should also get a separate transmission cooler installed because you are working your transmission harder than the stock radiator cooler will handle. Hope this helps.

2004 trailblazer going in and out of gear

Suspect transmission has failed. Recommend further diagnosis as transmission rebuilds are very spendy.
