We usually replace head gaskets when there is an overeating problem or leak problem, if you saw coolant in the spark plugs or if the misfire come with a thick white smoke from the tail pipe, then this is reason enough to do the head gasket job.

for random misfire we got spark plug wires high resistance,
weak coil,
bad fuel,
weak fuel pump.
bad injectors.

You are describing the classic symptoms of a blown head gasket from the cylinder into the water jacket. This causes loss of compression in the affected cylinder and also injects hot gases into the cooling jacket resulting in overpressure and overheating of the coolant. Perform a compression check of all cylinders and if any are appreciably lower than the others, you are looking at some major engine work.

White smoke is caused by 2 things. First water, second anti-freeze. One of these are mixing in cylinder 2.
First check your radiator levels and see if it is slowly draining.
Get an oil change. If it looks like a milk shake then you have anti-freeze mixing with your oil which would point toward a head gasket.

Second, check for excess water. Make sure your plugs are tight and boots are seated fully. Check the plug in cylinder 2 and see how it is burning. White(Too Hot), black(Too Rich), just right...

Lastly, check your exhaust manifold for cracks. The 98 tacomas have a cast manifold that WILL crack eventually. Mine cracked at 180K. You may just have water entering through the manifold near cylinder 2. You will have to remove the heat shield to get a proper look.

I have a rebuilt motor and it burns a half quart of oil and seems to run hot at times

I suspect the head gasket, if the gasket is not torque the right lbs chances are oil getting in the cyclinders. Also see how often u need to refill the coolant, if u refill it every one week or two u need to check it out. Other things cause the oil burn is the cyclinders rings size not correct, valve stem guide got wore out cause oil leak in cyclinders. Take the spark plugs out see the head is oilly black burn, if yes u know which cyclinder got oil in.

I think you have burnt valve seat or head gasket either cylinder head has to be removed

Blown head gasket 2nd time in a year

oh i love blowing head gaskets there alot of fun arnt they. but the reason your blowing head gaskets is the head is warped and you'll have to take it to a machine shop and have it machined flat again i would also have them check for cracks.

Deei just changed my head gaskets on my v-6 eclipse. now i have a oil leak and i have smoking. is it because of a bad seal, on my head gasket

could be, the first thing i would do is get the cyclinder head bolts torqued to right setting.Provided the cyclinder head is not warped ie the engine did not overheat before gasket was replaced?All heads have to be rechecked/retorqued after about 1000mls anyway,adrian,,,,,,,,,,,,

I keep getting a misfire in cyclinder 4? the car also now will not accelerate past 3000 rpm's i pulled the plugs and only 4 looks like its not firing i replaced it last week... there is no oil in the water...

The very first thing that you should do next is to take a compression reading especially the #4 cylinder, to determine if the mis-fire is caused by a mechanical problem or an electrical problem. If you are looking for an electrical problem when the problem is actually a mechanical one, you could wind up wasting a lot of money and time.

A mechanical problem that would cause a low compression mis-fire in the engine could be a burnt or bent intake or exhaust valve, a worn out or broken piston or compression ring, or even a warped cylinder head.

An electrical mis-fire would most likely be caused by a faulty ignition coil, a worn out or cracked distributor cap, worn out ignition wires, worn out spark plugs, or a faulty fuel injector.

My 2001 oldsmobile alero has a cylinder #4 misfire

The misfire can be caused by an open injector , injector pulg or circuit, bad spark plug ro wire lost compression as a burnt valve blown gasket ( antifrezze foulingthe sparplugs ) Low compression from overheating over mileage or flooding from injector leaking. Take out the number 4 plug and any other and compare what they look like if they don't look the same swich them and see if the miss moves to the cyclinder that the #4 plug moved to. If it does run good or misses on the new cyclinder change the spart plug with new and then look for loss of coolant or oil on plug wire carrect leak and try again
