you'll need to bleed the hydrolic clutch theres a bleeder cockpit looks like a grease fitting on the transmission. have someone help you for this. have one perdon press the pedal down 3 times and hold it while you loosen the fitting and close it. do this till all air is out of the line remeber to keep filling fluid as you do this. good luck to you.

SOURCE: jetta clutch

The clutch cable for your vehicle is an auto adjust clutch cable... assuming it is using oem equipment. if you tension seems incorrect you may want to pick up this Manual adjust clutch cable http://www.germanautoparts.com/Volkswagen/Jetta/Clutch/39/11 the auto adjust ones tend to go out and ruin your clutch. the manual adjust is a direct swap out for the auto adjust. if you need info on how to install please reference this site http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1569293

I did mine too and used the manual adjustable one as it should technically not wear as quickly as auto adjusting. No issues, no difference in *feel*

SOURCE: Self ADjusting Clutch Cable

Your car uses a hydraulic clutch, they are self adjusting and there is no way to adjust them provided, when the pedal engages near the top of its travel this means the clutch disk is worn out.

Can a clutch be adjusted on a 1994 jetta-or do you have to replace-if so is there a site I can get a free-download manual?

1st there are no free downloads of service manuals these are very expensive and they don't give them away, next the clutch is hydraulic and is self adjusting, sounds like the clutch is worn out on your car.

Pretty sure there is no adjustment. It should be a self adjusting cable. If you are having clutch problems, it's probably the clutch worn out.

96 Saab 900 Clutch Cable: Manual vs Self-Adjusting

just get the manually adjustable one. I just replaced mine today and I have a 96 900SE. the new clutch feels better and you only have to adjust it when the pedal has alot of "slack". that means that the pedal can be depressed about and inch before it starts operating the cable. anything more than an inch needs adjustment
