I had a similar setup. I had to put the rod in around the license plate to lower it, then remove the rod and loosen it from the middle of the rim there is a wing nut that holds the tire on.

How to take a spare tire off gmc envoy 2004

Since the spare is mounted under the rear of the car, Its not easy...you have to assemble the long crank rod out of its two pieces, then feed the rod through the hole in the top of the rear bumper and lock it into the mechanism that holds the tire in place. Once the crank rod is locked in, lower the tire towards the ground. Once the tire is low enough, you can crawl under the car and release the tire from its mount. The hardest part is locking the crank rod into the spare tire mechanism through the hole in the bumper.

How do i get my spare tire down? special tool? where?

Hello! Here is procedure to remove spare tire...Guru...saailer

  1. Park on a level surface and put on the emergency brake. If the car is near the side of a road, switch on the hazard lights.
  2. Locate the tire repair kit. It consists of a jack, a jack rod and a wheel nut wrench. In the regular cab, pull the entire seat bench forward. The tools are located behind the drivers seat. The King cab model has a tool case located directly behind the driver's seat. The Crew cab stows the tools behind the back bench. Pull the bench forward and remove the tools.
  3. Insert the square end of the jack rod into the square hole in the nut wrench. This gives the jack rod a handle.
  4. Find an oval shaped hole in the back of the truck under the middle of the tailgate. Look through the hole and find the winch for the spare tire. It is a circle with two notches.
  5. Insert the T-shaped end of the jack rod into the hole. Slip the T-shape into the double notched circle of the winch.
  6. Turn the jack rod counterclockwise to lower the spare tire to the ground.
  7. When the tire is completely lowered to the ground, remove the center retainer chain and pull the tire out from under the truck.
  8. Wind the jack rod clockwise to completely retract the retainer chain

I cant seem to figure out my spare tire set up

The spare is located under the truck just forward of the back bumper. Remove your jacking system, insert the rod into the hole through the bumper and rotate the bar counter clockwise it is held up by a cable pulley system, reinstall doing just the opposite. Seems compliated at first, but make sure the rod is inserted into the holder all the way.

Removed the spare tire

Hello my name is Ben. There is a rod located behind the seat under the jack ( unless someone has removed it ). Assemble this rod and then there is a small door in your rear bumper. Open that door and use your key to remove the lock (again if it is still there ). Now insert the rod and crank the spare down until you can "unhook" it.

How do i remove the spare tire from a 2004 GMC Envoy

The short answer is look in your owner's manual. If you don't have one, go to www.trailvoy.com and check in the resources section. There should be a link there for 2004 Envoy owner's manual.
Be aware that the spare tire winch mechanism should be exercised once in a while to keep it working freely.
