The front coil spring on S-Type, X-Type and XK Range is removed with the shock absorber. See Front Strut Disassembly.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section from your service manual.
  2. Remove the front wheel(s).
  3. Install the Special Tool 204-111 in road spring (check the link).
  4. Slacken the tool adjuster to suit spring length.
  5. Install the adaptor and thrust collar.
  6. Position the stem of tool in center of spring passing dowel through slot in suspension turret.
  7. Rotate the stem of to position dowel across slot.

Hope helps, keep in touch.

Very difficult without the right tools like a spring clamp ,easier to entrust it to a local mechanic who will have the right spring clamps ,its double wishbone type suspension which is difficult to say the least

SOURCE: front spring

Raise and safely support the vehicle.
Remove the tire/wheel assembly.
Remove any brackets or sway bar endlinks that may be attached to the strut.
Remove upper strut mount bolts (NOT THE BIG ONE IN THE CENTER) Should be three bolts.
Remove two strut to knuckle bolts and remove the strut.
Using an external spring compressor tool compress the spring. FOLLOW THE TOOL MANUFACTURES INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. COIL SPRINGS HOLD A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF POTENTIAL ENERGY AND CAN CAUSE VERY SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE IF THE TOOL IS USED INCORRECTLY.
Remove the top nut of the strut.
Remove the spring noting how the strut mount and other parts are oriented.
Remove the spring compressor.
Compress the new spring and install the new spring with the strut mount and other parts in the same orientation as it was removed.
Reinstall the top nut.
The rest is opposite of removal.

Hi i have a 2015 Korando sport . I have just found out it has two broken back springs . The vehicle has not been of road or hard used . Do you know if there is an issue with the design of these spring

take it in to a service dealer and ask to have the springs replaced under warranty as warranty or not , there is an expectation in law for something to last for a reasonable period of time
Springs should last well past 2 years
if there is a debate , call in the lawyer

Hydrolic clutch pedal sticking

Hi, Look in the foot well (where you normally have you feet) you should see a return spring attached to the clutch pedal, if missing or you can see broken spring you need to buy another spring, you will see parts of broken spring where they fit not a very hard job to replace. Please leave me feedback thanks, Malcolm Campbell.

Steering not responding well

Automobiles: 2006-2007 Ford Five Hundred 2WD & AWD, Montego

If the steering is getting a little hard to turn at low speeds, this would indicate a loss of Power Steering, and the steering is reverting to "Non-Power" steering, just like the days of the Ford Model T or Model A. Loss of power steering is usually caused by low level of PSF (Power Steering Fluid).
So first on my checklist would be checking the PSF level in the reservoir.
Also bleed (air) from PS (Power Steering) pump.

The Ford Five Hundred has front MacPherson struts, so check these for leakage (of the dampening fluid in the strut cylinder), or breakage of their coil springs.
These springs can actually weaken over time, but this is impossible to see - you must "feel" it by bouncing the strut up & down - preferably with your hands on the top of the strut tower in the engine compartment (rather than on the exterior finish).
If the MacPherson struts have weak/broken springs, these components are not separately serviceable, and the strut would have to be replaced as a unit (and preferably both left/right to maintain smooth/even ride).

The Five Hundred also has rear shock absorbers with springs - check for leaks/breakage/weakness here too.

Steering losing responsiveness/wander - checklist
Priority Action Part Type Cause
1 Inspect Rack & Pinion - Center Wear From Internal Fluid Leaking Around The Rack Piston.
2 Inspect Steering Stabilizer Bracket - Loose or Broken Steering Stabilizer Bracket.
3 Inspect Front Lower Control Arm - Front Lower Control Arm loose/missing bolt(s)
4 Inspect Front Lower Ball Joints - Front Lower Ball Joint(s) Worn/Loose
5 Inspect Front Upper Ball Joints -Front Upper Ball Joint(s) Worn/Loose
6 Inspect Tire Pressure - Tire Pressure should be 35 PSI for the Five Hundred and Montego's P225/55R18 OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) tires.

Harsh ride - checklist

1 Inspect Rear Shock/Strut - Shocks/Strut failing/leaking.
2 Inspect Front Shock/Strut - Shocks/Strut failing/leaking.
3 Inspect Coil Spring - Incorrect Coil Spring Selection or Installation.
4 Inspect Coil Spring - Coil Spring broken.

Broken front coil springs

can't seem to locate any recalls for that issue. the replacement springs may not be up to the specifications that are called for. some of the cheap aftermarket replacements use to hard a steel (brittle) check that the correct spring is being installed.

Need source for new 1997 XK8 convertible front coil springs

Hi

Yes front coil springs are what you need !

I think the spares situation for Jaguars, is disgusting with the main dealers.

I have been trying to source them myself, for about 2 weeks, and only found ****, painted up second hand ones.
I will keep trying, and let you know if I am lucky and find a source for genuine new springs.

Best Wishes

John
