Question about Peugeot Liberte

The oil pressure light on my car does not light up when i switch on the ignition. I was wondering if you could tell me where the oil pressure sensor is in the engine, so i can test it and see if it is the sensor or the bulb is blown in the dash. Thanks Adrian

Look on the cylinder block ,oil light switch is in line with a oil gallery mbut some models its on the filter housing head but you havent stated what model

The low oil pressure warning lamp will illuminate anytime the ignition switch is turned to the ON position without the engine running. When the engine is running, the light also illuminates if the engine oil pressure drops below a safe oil pressure level. To test the system, perform the following:
If the oil pressure light does not work, perform the following:
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. If the lamp does not light, check for a broken or disconnected wire around the engine and oil pressure sending unit switch.
  3. If the wire at the connector checks out OK, pull the connector loose from the switch and, with a jumper wire, ground the connector to the engine.
  4. With the ignition switch turned to the ON position, check the warning lamp. If the lamp lights, make sure the oil pressure switch is properly grounded in the cylinder block, and if so replace the oil pressure switch. If the lamp still fails to light, check for a burned out lamp or disconnected socket in the instrument cluster.
To diagnose an oil pressure light that stays on, perform the following:
  1. Check the engine oil level and top off as necessary. If the engine was 2 or more quarts low on oil, test start the engine after topping off the oil level and recheck the oil pressure light operation. If the light stays on, stop the engine immediately and go to the next step.
  2. Disconnect the wire at the sending unit, then turn the ignition switch to theON position. If the light remains on, check the wire from the sending unit to the gauge for being shorted to ground and repair as necessary. If the light goes out, turn the ignition switch OFF and go to the next step.
  3. Replace the oil pressure sending switch with a known good switch.
  4. Start the engine and check the oil pressure light operation. If the light stays on with the engine running, stop the engine immediately to avoid severe engine damage until the cause of the problem can be determined.

WARNING
If the oil pressure light remains on while the engine is started, stop the engine immediately. Do not operate the engine until the cause of the problem can be determined. Operating an engine with low oil pressure will cause severe internal damage.

Possible causes for an oil pressure light to stay on are:

It reads codes po300 po300 po522 but it runs perfect sometimes I need to press fuel pedal to start?


code p 0300 refers to random/multiple cylinder misfires detected ===causes spark plugs ---HT leads ---injector/s--ignition coil/s---low compression---wiring
code p 0522 refers to engine oil pressure sensor/switch--low voltage ===causes wiring short to ground ---engine oil pressure sensor /switch---ECM
for the first code having to alter the accelerator position ( which tells the ECM to let in more fuel indicates either a low pressure in the fuel manifold or that the injectors need cleaning
At high way speeds when the engine appears to be running good , it is still possible to have random misfires caused by low fuel pressures and /or dirty injector tips
It would be a good idea to check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge ,then replace the oil pressure sensor/switch

Oil pressure light flashing


If your oil pressure is good, let's look beyond the oil pump.
I'd like to tell you how to turn off the pesky light, but that's beyond my skill.
In the long run, you may choose to put black tape over it.
It could be the sending unit, yes.
They aren't too expensive.
If that doesn't work, I'd consider an oil pressure gauge!.
You didn't say what year or model you have.
Could you handle an oil pressure gauge mounted under the dashboard?
Loose or worn bearings , if not noisy now, will very often fail very quickly, sometimes before you can even reach the ignition key to turn it off!

My oil light comes on. the car has oil. runs like a champ no noises of any kind sounds like it always has. iv been told its the oil presh senc going bad or has gone bad. any thoughts? its a 1999 chevy...


i'd agree sounds like a faulty oil pressure switch.doing a pressure test with a guage will
tell for sure or just replace switch ($15 part)

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P1189

Description: "Oil Pressure Switch Signal Voltage Is High"

The engine oil pressure switch closes when there is low oil pressure, making the sensor signal voltage low. The switch opens when the oil pressure is above 4.5 Psi, making the sensor circuit voltage high. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the oil pressure switch and sends a class 2 message to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) to tell it if the switch is open or closed. DTC1189 is set when the PCM determines that the sensor signal circuit is high with the ignition switch in the RUN position for more than 10 seconds.

Both the PCM and IPC must be scanned and the data must be checked and verified before the actual cause of this code can be accurately determined. This can be caused by a number of different things including: low engine oil pressure, a malfunctioning oil pressure switch, broken wires or bad connectors, or a defective IPC or ECM.

Oil light flickers when in idle. Oil on dip stick measures fine.


install a mechanical guage to test the actual pressure, if its fine the sending unit is faulty, if nor remove the oil pan and check the oil pickup for blockage,

if light is not working then first try this
* move ignition switch to on position, remove oil pressure sensor pin and touch it to engine body where it should get earthing, and same time oil light should come on, if it is not then that wire is disconnected some where in loom .

When switching on ignition buzzer goes off, oil sensor ,garage flashes on,oil full .where is sensor ?


The gauge should be on when the key is on and the engine is not running.

The gauge is lit by a sensor which detects oil pressure. If your engine is not running, there is no oil pressure, so the circuit closes and the light comes on.
