Question about Dodge Neon

1 Answer

My daughter slid in the snow and went over a 1foot pole with her 2002 dodge neon 2.0 4cyl, I already replaced the bent tie rod, but now when you shift from park to reverse then to drive, the engine physically lifts up a good inch. when it didnt before. Also it clunks when shifting. Any ideas? I was told it could be an engine mount, but I dont physically see any issue with them. However I am not used to dealing with engine mounts so if it isnt right I wont necessarily know it, unless its snapped in half. Please help. Glenn

Good chance she damaged a torque strut as well. Have a look at the picture for locations, and check for bend, damage, or excessive movement. It may require ramps or hoist and someone with foot on the brake, shifting to see movement, so please be sure to take all necessary precautions whatever you decide. My daughter slid in the - motor1258.gif

You probably bent the inner tie rod on that side. It's the weakest link in that equation. The next likely culprit could be a bent lower control arm. Take it someplace and have the front end checked out. Most places do it for free right before doing an alignment.

if its the outer tie rod then you can loosen the lock nut on threaded portion that attaches to the inner tie rod then remove the nut that locks the tie rod to the spindle can hit the area were the tie rod stud goes through the hole to loosen it to remove it from the assembly.then count the number of turns to remove it from the inner tie rod end.then install the new one the number of turns you took the old one off and reassemble in reverse order.its a good idea to get the alignment done to make sure the wheels are positioned right and not wear the tires out early.

Power steering went out on a 2002 trailblazer. the serpentine belt was slipping off so I replaced the serpentine belt and pulley tensioner, still out. Pulled the steering pump, pulley shaft was broken....

Have you checked your tie rods? Possibility one is either bent or broken, I've seen it before on TB's. That pulley shaft is a common problem to break, especially when cold out. PS pumps/pulley shafts and tie rods will snap if doing donuts in the snow with the steering wheel cranked, or off-roading. The PS is completely mechanical, no fuses or relays.

I think it's bent. Wife slid into a curb. Are both the left and right supposed to be straight?

What is "it" that is bent? What is both. I have no idea what you are talking about.
The Tires?
The Tie Rods?
The Sway Bar?
WHAT is BENT?????

Bent tire rod

that person is correct. remove the wheel and look at the tie rods. this vehicle uses a rack and pinion system so look at the rod connecting the rack to the outer tie rod. you will more than likely endup replacing the inner tie rod. then take it to an alignment shop and get it aligned.

How hard is it to replace a outside tie rod end on a 95 dodge neon and how.

take the wheel off, there is a nut on the tie ron locking the tie rod end in place loosen this up (only break it free do not back way off) now take the nut offthe tie rod end that goes into the spindle, Hit the side spindle with a hammer right were the end goes in while pulling up on the tierod end (may take a few hard hits)> Now that you have the end out of the spindle you can unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tierod.*******NOTE*******measure the distance between the locknut on the inner tie rod to the middle of the outer tierod end,You want to keep that same distance or your car will pulll to one side and you'll need a wheel allignment.

Replacing outer tie rod on a 2000 dodge neon

put the tie rod back in and thread the nut on. then you turn the inner tierod with a pipe wrench or a big pair of channel locks. you can spray the threads with pb blaster or wd-40. also if ya have a propane torch this helps loosen the threads. apply heat to the outer tierod do not heat the inner. good luck jimmy
