New Fuel Filter, Spark Plugs And Spark Plug Wires Will SURELY HELP! I recommend to everyone who has hard starting vehicles to get these things replaced and your car will start great! A bottle of isopropyl or HEAT added to the gas tank removes water and moisture which can also help for cold starts.

I went to go get my car inspected and it wouldn't pass because of a code P0106. I want to explain how my car is acting when started especially when its cold out. The colder it is the worse it starts.

I'd be more inclined to the cold start side of things. Relay, cold start sensor. Water Temp sensor not activating the cold start setting.

The lights going dim could be something else completely

Cold air getting in at the drivers right foot

That is typical for most cars. The front lower (foot area) vents allow cold air to come in just before the heater kicks in (heat value opens). If this just started, may be wait for a warm / hot day and see it continues. Sometimes people forget as this typically happen only on colder days. I wouldn't worry about it. To make it stop, turn off the heater - A/C and wait for the car to warm up before turning on the heater. The car is warm once the engine temp gauge starts to move up / show warmer. In most typical cars it takes about 5 to 7 minutes running get the engine temp up to a point where the heater will blow warmer air. If you have more details / concerns - post them, the more you include (car make, model & year, when did the problem start, anything make it worse or better, influencing conditions e.g. rain, cold, hot, dry, etc the better).

Sluggish ignition start

I think your mistaken. Your battery will lose cranking power as the temp drops. Warm battery may work just fine, untill it gets below freezing temps then the cranking amps are so low its sluggish. Buy a high cranking amp battery and you will be good as gold mate!

A/C air sometimes cold, sometimes not on VW Beetle 2001 Turbo

AC will not work with temps are cold even when it is turned on. The air is colder cause the temp is colder. The AC cycles in hot weather because the AC charge is low and needs recharging. You will know this if you open the hood run the AC and you will hear the clicking sound of the AC compressor magnetic clutch. You can recharge it easily buy buying a compatible can of refrigerant. I suggest buying the kit with the gage so you don't overcharge the system which will cause freeze ups

Clutch, Trouble shifting

If when you replace that slave cylinder, it is still not as it should be, don't forget the master cylinder even though they are less frequent failures. And, don't bother trying to prevent hydraulic fluid loss; you should change it anyhow (it's hygroscopic and will absorb water causing rust) and it will need to be bled to remove trapped air bubbles just like brake systems.
I really think you should have the service manual available for this, and potential future failures. Either Chilton or Haynes books are to be had at any auto parts store and are worth the $20-$30.
