All cars have shocks and/or struts. Grand am has front struts and either rear struts or shocks. When these are worn, the ride would be rough. If a motor mount was bad, you may feel rocking or visually see the motor wiggle back and forth when you press and release the accelerator pedal. Motor mounts won't affect handling. Either shocks/struts, sway bar, stabalizer bar or links are the common cause

You're correct friend, on replacing with heavier duty shocks. That would be a plus for your driving experience. The short wheelbase on these "Blazer" style vehicles does make for a rough ride.

Was told i had a leak in my rear shock and yes it rides a bit rough is that the problem

Shocks/struts are key to keeping your ride in your vehicle as smooth as it can be with the bumps and dips in the road.

Is it plausible this is your problem? Yes.

Is this your problem? I don't know without looking at the vehicle itself.

But, if you notice your vehicle riding rough AND did not state this to the mechanic diagnosing your vehicle and they suggest replacement of the rear shocks, it doesn't seem someone is trying to pull the wool over your eyes in this situation.

I would go with new shocks and struts and have the entire suspension system checked for wrong or damaged parts while they are under there.

Rough riding dakota

I would think, most likely the shocks are bad. The springs could be weak, but I would think it would sit a bit low. I'd check the stabilizer links. The vibration could be a bad universal joint in the driveshaft. I'd replace the shocks first.

The front[or rear] sway bars have links in them that are rubber mounted,it sounds like one of the sway bar links is broken,or one of the sway bar bushings is missing.Find the sway bar and have a close look at the mounts to see if the problem lies here.

My 2004 Grand Cherokee is not riding as smooth as it did when I purchased it and that is why I specifically purchased this car. I had the rear shocks replaced once and that is when the rough ride started....

Hi

I would check the air mass sensor and the EGR valve. very common on these cars, dont think the suspension wil have anything to do with the rough idle.

You can clean the EGR and the air mass sensor sometimes and they are fine. let me know if you need more specifics about these parts.

If the rough road is the issue new shocks will make the truck ride even stiffer, if you must replace the shocks because of fluid leaks then stick with the factory shocks from your local Ford dealer, they are the exact right one for your truck. this is a SUV and by nature they are stiff riding,
