The thermostat is right on the lower radiator hose, where the lower hose goes into engine. If you look at bottom of radiator you see two wires and a nut that is the thermostat.

My crv heat does not work well. Takes forever to heat if it does at all. The thermostat rarely moves from cold. Warm weather there is not a problem.

The thermostat could be stuck open or even missing. (previous owner could have removed it.) It is inexpensive and easy to change (or add). A new one could possibly solve your problem.

Hi Honda crv (98) R overheating.

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR THERMOSTAT IS STICKING,REPLACE THERMOSTAT FIRST OVERHEATING WILL DAMAGE ENGINE.IF THAT DOSEN'T WORK HAVE WATER PUMP CHECKED.FANS WON'T TURN ON IF HEAT FROM ENGINE IS NOT FLOWING INTO RAD BECAUSE THEROMOSTAT STUCK CLOSED,OR WATER PUMP FAILING

Just replaced a head gasket on a 98 honda crv. It still overheats but there is no oil in the water so the head leak is fixed. What could be wrong??

When this happens with any car you should have your radiator cleaned, replace the water pump and resurface the head, dont forget to replace the thermostat too.

check your wiring for dirty connections or broken wires, you may have wires that are rubbed through or connectors that are not making full contact. you will need an ohm meter and check wires for continuity. a wiring diagram will be needed.

follow the top hose from the radiator to the engine... where it meets is your thermostat... two or three bolts hold the hosing on... replace the gasket when you replace the thermostat... and note copper plug part goes in the same way as the old one.
