No, it does not mean you have a head gasket failure. Moisture can build up under the cap and when the moisture mixes with the light oil film, it will appear milky. If there is no evidence of coolant in the oil on the dipstick or evidence of coolant in the oil when it is drained, then there is no reason to believe that there is an internal gasket failure, unless of course, you are overheating or the engine is running a high temp.

Not really it means you are not running the engine hot enough ,make sure the temeprature is reading right then take it for a long run once in a while ,this will let the engine run hot enough for long enough to evaporate the condensation build up ,also change oil every 6000miles and oil filter every third oil change

its getitng water into the engine then which is either a head gasket or a oil cooler ,but with the mileage you state then heads are the main suspect .Nothing mechanical lasts for ever it wears out in the end ,like my knees and back

I need to know how to tell if i have a blown head \head gasket

If you car is overheating often and white smoke come out the tail pipe when running, good chance it is. Easiest way it to check is the fluid in the radiator - look for oil floating on the top. If your cooling reservoir (off white container connected by a smaller black hose to the radiator) has fluid in it, check it or you can open the radiator cap (only when the engine is cool - hasn't been running - don't touch it until it's sat for a few hours if you used it) and use a turkey baster or similar to pull some fluid out. If you see some oil floating, it's most likely a head gasket.

My Alero is overheating, and pushing the coolant out the surg tank, my brother said water pump, changed. then said thermostat, changed. then said radiator clogged, flushed. still doing the same thing?

Do fans come on , if not it is the $8 dollar temp sensor or the fan fuse or the fan motor.
If you have heat from the heater and if radiator gets hot then it is neither the raditor or the water pump nor the thermostat as neither heater or radiator would get hot
because no water would be moving in the system.

Ok,I have a 2002Firebird 3.8 seriesII, V6 coolant/water is coming up from radiator with cap off.

When you change antifreeze an air pocket is created in engine behind thermostat. You must let it run until the thermostat opens. Until then, liquid will boil backfkowing through bottom of radiator.
As for milky look, blown headgasket would cause white foam that if left alone wouldclear up. Otherwise it could be an additive in the fluid such as rust preventative.

How can I be sure my problem with my 1991 Nissan pickup is oil mixing with coolant

Remove oil filler cap which is normally on top of the rocker cover look at underside of cap, the side that goes into rocker cover, and if it is covererd in a white oily substance or if the tube that the filler cap goes into has the white gunge in it yo have oil and water / coolant mixing in your engine

My 95 Honda odyssey isn't holding the coolant or

did you check the water pump for leaks if you do not see coolant on the floor a good posibility you have a head o head gasket problem, first check for the obvious like coolant reservoir, cap, water hoses for any leaks: Remove oil filler cap and inspect if it has a white milky goo on it inside filler cap then you have a head gasket leak

2007 Mazda 3 - Service engine soon light on. Was told you could turn your ignition key "X" number of times and it would self diagnose. True? How many times?

I am not sure about the key fix but check your engine oil for signs of water mix may be head gasket on way out look for milky mix on your dip stick and oil filler cap on the inside

I have a 2000 ford contour. It's over heating and I got white smoke coming out of the exhaust. What is the problem? Thanks

Sounds like your head gasket is leaking coolant into one or more of the combustion chambers, do you have any water in the oil pan?(does the oil look milky? Or does the oil filler cap have a milky residue along with the overheating and white smoke you have, these are all tell tale sighn of head gasket failure.
Thanks, Frank

Yellow white goo under my valve covers but not in the oil

you have antifreeze getting in somewhere as it's the only thing that will make oil foam up and get a gooy greyish white color....you might check to see where it shows up strongest and check that part of the engine closely for a leak...

Camaro 1997 v6 auto, signs of oil in coolant ??

that is most likely transmassion fluid coming from a brocken line in your radiator, you may need a new radiator.

My toyota has white blowby on oil cap is this a sign have a blown

It could just be some sort of condensation. I would clean the oil cap well and drive it for a few days. Then check it again. If its a coolant leak it will not go away. I would eliminate the easy stuff before you tear into it.
