Many people bypass the heater core if it is leaking. It stops the leak but then you have no heat.
The core itself looks like a small radiator and is located inside the big box under the dashboard and isn't very easy to remove. You will need a chilton or haynes manual to guide you through the job or bring it to a shop and have them do it.

To by pass the heater coil, you must connect the two hoses going into the heater coil. Did you do this? or did you just plug one hose line? best to replace heater coil if it is leaking to get heat working in winter.

If the original y-fitting is ok. Just get yourself a piece of heater hose. The auto store may have heater hose on a roll, You may need to tell them the ID and how long, they just cut a length for you and you use hose clamp. I'm not sure what you bought/an assembly? Maybe you can take it back and just get a piece of hose? Of course, I can't see anything from here?
I did find this picture.

By passing a heater core 1985 crown vic

simply follow the hoses from the firewall, these go to the heater core. disconnect both hoses at the firewall and connect them to each other with a pipe nipple. Or remove one of these hoses and loop the remaining hose back to the fitting on the engine where the other hose was removed.

Replaced the therastate in a 2007 pontiac grand prix. what could be the problem it still doesn't heat good

clogged heater core very pop prob. check both hoses to firewall from back of engine pass side to make sure they are equal tmep if not it is a bad heater core you can flush these by removing the hoses and blowing them out with air or a garden hose also check to see if you hear a door closing in the vents when switched from hot to cold if you do it is safe to say itis a heater core

Overheating and blowing cold air. 1999 Grand Prix

It sounds like your water pump may have gone bad. The water pump pushes the antifreeze through the engine, heater core and Radiator which is regulated by the thermostate. Sorry for the bad news but i hope this helps, and Good luck
