Question about 1994 Mazda 323

1 Answer

Mazda Famila BJ5P

My problem is the AT gearbox. When put to "D" and drive the gears are shifting from 1st to 2nd and there onwards the car gets braked automatically and the "HOLD" light blinks. At this moment i need to shut off the engine and restart. Now I cannot go on the "D" because of this problem. Used an analyzer to see and it says Code 0730 - "Incorrect Gear Ratio". Tried replacing the Vlave Boxes. But, yet the same. What could be the exact problem?

Even i had the same problem but try to take off ur AT oil and take off the filter of the AT gear box for this u can screw off the nuts of the sump of the AT gear box and then take the filter off and replace it by another then before replacing the filter keep the gear box to draw off all the oil which was there and then eplace it and put new gear oil

run the engine for a while about 4-5 days and again put on to a dignoser and reset the gear box settings
i think this will work

VERY Bizarre Combination of "Symptoms" I Believe Relating to Clutch or Transmission, or heaven forbid worse! Please help!

Hi,

First, congrats on the most detailed problem description I have ever seen! Seriously, it does assist us.

All this is completely consistent with your clutch not releasing properly, meaning that the gearbox is still turning when the pedal is depressed. The syncros in the gearbox will then keep you out of gear, that is what they should do. You can indeed shift into higher gears however when driving as the gearbox revs more nearly match to what is needed. The jerking forward when you hit the starter is due to the poor old starter motor having to move the whole car instead of just the engine, because the clutch has not released !

Now as to why, it is likely that the clutch release fork has broken, inside the housing. I had this once with a Mazda, and symptoms were exactly as you describe. The gearbox has to be removed if this is the problem, and you should also then take the chance to renew the clutch, pressure and driven plate both, unless quite new.

Also a possible cause is a complete loss of clutch fluid if a hydraulic clutch, or a broken cable if that type of clutch. Loss of fluid in a hydraulic clutch can be easily checked in the fluid reservoir, and can occur if a hose splits

Mazda bravo b2600 gearbox growles and grumbles. cant select 2nd or 4th gear. 1st, 3rd,5th & reverse ok.

I am sorry to tell that the gearbox need to have some major repair. It is also not advisable to continue driving as the gearbox can breakdown completely leaving you stranded. At least one the cluster drive gears in the gearbox is damaged (gear tooth stripped off) that will result in that only some of the gears being able to be selected. The broken off tooth are still in the gearbox and due to the oil movement in the gearbox it can be "washed up " in between to engaged gears destroying those as well. This will happen up to the point where there are no gear selection at all.

Lost forward gears

You have lost the 1st, 2nd, etc. in DRIVE? If you put the car in SECOND does it move forward a little bit? Put the car in Manual 2nd, can you shift into DRIVE and feel the third gear? This happened to me. The 'forward clutch' needs replacing. The transmission clutch plates in that part are glazed over because the fluid is burned. See if your fluid is brown.

'93 Mazda Protege (automatic shift) shifts from 1st to 3rd, then thats it. The RPM goes 3500 and up when I drive over 45 mph. I had to stay under 65mph driving across country recently. FYI...ju

Likely a gearbox issue.
Check condition of gearbox oil. If dark red or brownish in colour, then replace oil. Remove gearbox sump and replace oil filter. When replacing filter look for metal particles in oil
Retry.

If no success, or if finding large degree of chaff in gearbox sump, then likely a gearbox failure.

I have a 94 Jaguar xj6. the transmission light is on. it shifts hard in maybe 1st and 2nd gear. I've changed the transmission ecu, transmission relay, and fuses that have to do with the gearbox.

Change the xmission fluid and filter. If that doesnt fix it, it could be the solenids, the soleniod pack, what evey they call it on a Jag.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

One thing that can cause this is a faulty torque converter. If the torque converter is faulty, the shifting of the vehicle fails. One good reason why it only shifts on 2 gears. Have it replaced and you'll be good.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Rebuilt gearbox probably... unfortunately!
If the HOLD light in the in strument cluster is flashing at you, it is giving you a transmission diagnostic code (like a kind of Morse Code). A transmission specialist or a Mazda Dealer will be able to read this code and plug their computer into the cars computer, and tell you what is wrong.
