Hi Ed.
this is all i could find at the moment.
Gas Cap Causing Gasoline Smell in Car. I know it may seem obvious, but a loose or missing gas cap can cause a fuel smell in your vehicle. You could even have a faulty gas cap that is leaking fumes. A faulty gas cap can also cause the check engine light to illuminate with a DTC on newer cars.
Why does it smell like gas in my car?
Whether you love or can't stand the odor of gasoline, a vehicle that smells like gas most likely has a leak somewhere within the fuel delivery system. Since gasoline is flammable, this presents a major hazard and requires an immediate fix.
A leaking fuel line can be discovered by looking for gaspuddles under your car when parked. A fuel-injection line may also leak, causing you to notice the smell of gasfumes during and immediately after driving. A fuel-tank vent hose may also leak, causing unburned gas to exit your fuel system as vapor.24 Apr 2015
Could be two different problems. If the check engine light is not on, I would look at the vapor canister for the gas tank. Its usually mounted in the engine compartment. If you have a small oil leak, the fumes will be sucked into the passenger compartment thru the cowl vents.
When the heater is turned on, it is drawing in air from the cowl at the bottom of the windshield outside the car. If your smelling gas when you turn it on, it would suggest to me that there may be a fuel leak under the hood. A lot of Honda's have the fuel filter under the hood against the firewall. Open the hood, and see if the gas smell is any stronger, or any gas smell at all for that matter. I would strongly recommend getting the car checked as soon as possible, if you can find the source of the smell yourself.
I would definatly recheck the regulator to make certain you do not have any leaks.
But to be clear, you are smelling gas and not exhaust?
Also, is you cowl seal in good shape, not missing or damaged in any way?
Let me know.
Regards,
it is likely that the access plate that the pump is under is not sealed, most likely the O ring seal got installed wrong or cut and gas is leaking by it, not enough to drip on the ground but enough to smell.
