Question about 2002 Dodge Dakota Club Cab

1 Answer

I have a 2006 Dodge Dakota sport - automatic. Recently my check engine light came on. Since than, every time I step on the gas it makes a strange noise as well as I hear a thumb every 10 - 20 seconds when I am driving. I though maybe I need to get my engine flush so I had my oil change and engine flush. The person thought that it was my #6 cylinder is misfiring. Would like to take it to a mechanic but I am afraid they will give me a run around along with a large bill. Any advice you may be able to office is greatly appreciated.

Do a tune up cap, rotor, plugs, wires. This is the simple and easy fix. You may also have a bad ignition coil or module.

2001 dodge dakota sport dies when idleing when coming to a stop

Have you tried cleaning A.I.S. motor on side of throttle body with throttlebody cleaner? 2 or 3 torx screws normally holding it on . Remove it, clean pintle (pointed end) and shaft with cleaner, and re-install and try that. if it cures it for a while, then does it again, replace it. Be sure to spray well inside port that pintle is inserted in to clean that surface as well. ( A.I.S. = Automatic Idle Speed ) Adjusts idle as required under load conditions such as turning wheel, heater/Ac on, brakes applied etc, to step up idle to eliminate stalling.)

Check the TPS Sensor on throttle body (throttle position)

Also the Air Idle Control Solenoid at the base
of throttle body, on side

Spark plugs strangely make a difference on the dakota,
clean rotor & cap

There is no timing adjustment

Never move your distributor,it is for
injector timing

I have a Dodge Dakota quad cab-magnum V-8. It started at 77,000 miles with trying to start it and it turned over lots before it would crank. Mechanic says he put 3 different fuel pumps in it but still does...

Yes , it's probably the gas cap - the valve in it is stuck shut so the tank gets under vacuum when you start the engine, lowering the fuel flow. Just replace the cap.

Sounds like a bad battery, or bad/loose connection there. After the battery is replaced, or disconnected, it will need a little bit to relearn how to idle.

Changed water pump on 1994 dodge dakota sport

Hi my name is Allen!
Not sure how changing a water pump could cause a no start, but it sounds like the main Ignition Fuse may have blown some how, or you accidently knocked a connector loose some where. Check the PCM and make sure all the connectors are plugged in tightly.

Is that capacitor wired in such a way that it could be feeding back? I'd remove it for a while & see what happens.Hopefully some damage hasn't already been done, if that was the cause.
