Question about 1995 Buick Regal

1 Answer

1995 Buick regal- filled the coolant reservoir with antifreeze last Sunday to the cool temp line. (antifreeze was straight and not 50/50) checked the radiator and there was coolant all the way to the neck. It is Thursday and the coolant has evaporated from reservoir but there are know external leaks that I am aware of. The car is NOT overheating but is at the halfway mark on the temp gage which seems a little warm for this time of year. Where is the antifreeze going that I put in the reservoir?

Check all around the intake manifold gasket for evidence of antifreeze. Also check your oil for evidence of coolant. The Dexcool antifreeze used in GM engines can cause the intake gaskets to deteriorate causing coolant leakage. Very difficult to detect.

My heating just stopped working as I was driving what can be wrong with it

Check your coolant level after the engine has cooled and check radiator reservoir also . Its best to check with the engine cold because it more of a precise level then with the engine at operating temp. Plus you take a chance a getting burned really bad checking the antifreeze with the engine at operating temp also. On the side of the reservoir is a max fill line somewhere about half way down and with the engine cold, that's where the antifreeze level should be when its full. The reason the max line isn't at the top is because of expansion when the engine temp rises. Good luck and stay safe and keep us posted!

Check radiator fluid? Type of fluid, and filling instruction.

There are 3 popular types of antifreeze on the market right now. Green, Orange, and Yellow or universal. If you are unable to tell what color your currently have I would go with the Yellow, or universal, just to be safe. You will want to wait until your vehicles engine has cooled before opening the radiator cap. Fill radiator and coolant reservoir with proper coolant and mixture. If using full strength coolant mix 50/50 with distilled water. If you buy pre-mixed coolant just add straight out of the bottle until full.

Heater on 2004 ford tauras stopped getting hot suddenly

check coolant level first and make sure no air trapped in system. Ask shop to use evac/fill equipment to purge air.

cold engine - remove cap & fill radiator with 50/50 mix antifreeze/water. install cap.

fill reservoir 3/4 full. run engine until upper rad hose is hot. let cool and see if it sucks coolant from reservoir. Keep res 3/4 full. repeat.

My sunfire overheats and leaks out overflow everytime i drivee it.i changed water pump, thermostat the fan is working fine and had a water pressure test done last mth

DID YOU BLEED AIR OUT THE COOLANT SYSTEM.TO BLEED COOLANT SYSTEM, FILL THE COOLANT SYSTEM THROUGH THE RESERVOIR TANK OR THE RADIATOR UNTIL THE FULL COLD MARK IS REACHED.BESURE TO USE 50/50 HALF WATER AND ANTIFREEZE.YOU CAN BUY ANTIFREEZE THAT IS ALREADY PREMIX 50/50.AFTER ADDING ANTIFREEZE TO RESERVOIR OR RADIATOR FILL RADIATOR TO FULL MARK OR IF YOU DONT HAVE RADIATOR CAP ON RADIATOR POUR ANTIFREEZE IN THE OVERFLOW JUG UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STAY THE FULL COLD MARK.WAIT AWHILE UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING.NOW INSTALL THE RADIATOR OR OVER FLOW JUG CAP.START THE ENGINE AND ALLOW IT TO RUN UNTIL NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE IS REACHED AND THE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE BECOME HOT.STOP THE ENGINE AND OBSERVE THE COOLANT LEVEL IN THE OVERFLOW JUG. THE COOLANT LEVEL SHOULD BE AT THE FULL HOT LINE.ALLOW THE ENGINE TO COOL UNTIL THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IS REACHED THEN CHECK THE COOLANT LEVEL IT SHOULD BE AT OR ABOVE THE FULL COLD LINE.ADD MORE COOLANT IF NECESSARY. WARNING BECAREFUL WHEN OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP OR JUG OVER FLOW CAP.USE A LARGE RAG OVER THE RADIATOR CAP TO KEEP FROM GETTING SCALDED.OPEN RADIATOR CAP A LITTLE AT A TIME TO KEEP FROM GETTING SCALDED.WAIT UNTIL ENGINE COOL DOWN BEFORE OPENING RADIATOR CAP OR OVERFLOW JUG CAP.WEAR SAFETY GLASSES.

Car does not use antifreeze from the fill tank. I have to put it straight into the rad.

IT COULD BE A BAD RADIATOR CAP! EITHER CLOGGED, OR WRONG PRESSURE! ANY PARTS STORE CAN GET YOU THE RIGHT CAP!

Replaced bad AC unit with floater pully, now no heat, overheating

most likely when you replaced coolant line and refilled rad the system was not bled properly.
fill the system with 50/50 again and top up the reservoir. run the engine to 2000 rpm and look at temp gauge . it should rise to middle and drop to low this means t stat opend and air is out now let engine idle and top up coolant. good luck

Low coolant light, temp normal

try adding it via the reservoir. make sure you have a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze. If you want to cheat, cheat on the side of more antifreeze than water. Look for a leak in the hoses and water pump to find out if she has a larger problem that is causing the loss of coolant. look for drips under the car.

Coolant fill procedure

NEVER open the radiator when the car (or any other engine) is running!! The radiator is part of the pressurized cooling system (under that cap is coolant at 15psi)

Correct way to check the coolant in the radiator, is wait until the engine is COLD, then remove the radiator cap and re-fill.
