Question about 1990 Ford Probe
Find the belt tensioner. good do you see a diagram of belt routing on hood or cross panel? stop if not! take a pen and write down a diagram of the belt routing before removing the belt!!! at the tensioner insert a 3.8 inch ratchet into the tensioner,rotate counter clockwise andyou will see the belt loosen, remove the belt!make sure you know or have a drawn diagram of how belt goes back on and routing of belt!!simple right? put belt on until you need extra room to make it fit,insert the ratchet rotate the samr way you got belt off, and then reinstall the belt! hint!!! it some times take 2 people, make sure the 2nd person is there when you take belt off, diagram is a must!!!!!! thank you for choosing fixya,com

The belt should have a spring loaded tensioner the takes up the slack in the belt. Most cars are similar in their methods, but you merely insert a square drive from a breaker bar in the provided square drive on the tensioner or use a socket. (16mm ?) on the pulley wheel and simply unload the spring tension until you can free the belt, then assemble in reverse order. There is usually a chart under the hood that shows belt routing.
