2003 saturn l200 3rd brake light out

The center-mount brake light inside the vehicle at the rear edge of the headliner for the sedan:

Carefully pull down the trim cover by its edges and remove it. To remove a center-mount brake light bulb socket, rotate it 1/4 turn counter-clockwise and pull it out. This is on page 12-15 of the Haynes Saturn L-series 2000 to 2004.

Third brake light replacement

The high mount brake light can only be accessed from the inside of the hatch; you need to remove the large cover first. There are two screws, one in each of the handholds near the bottom of the hatch. With those out, you should be able to slide the cover up and the whole thing will come off. From there you should be able to see the third brake light housing; there are two or three screws holding it it in place. After taking those out and unplugging it, you can pull it out from the outside of the car.

Note that the center brake light is a strip of LEDs, so you can't just replace the bulb. On mine, the contact for the plug had come loose from the circuit board and I was able to fix it by resoldering the connector. However, it's a sealed plastic housing, and if mine hadn't been broken anyway, there's no way to access the circuit board. I had to reglue everything after I'd done the repairs, and it worked fine, but if your housing is intact, you'd have to break it or cut it open to be able to do anything to the circuit board. Much easier just to get one off eBay or from a wrecking yard. Knowing Volkswagen, a new one will be ridiculously expensive. No idea if anyone makes an aftermarket replacement, so personally I'd go for a used one.

Try having someone watch ur lights as you tilt the steering wheel in different positions and pressing on the brake in each tilt position. Sounds strange but the brake light go through teh wiring in the steering column. I drive with my wheel tilted higher than normal to keep BOTH brake lights working.

Want to replace my own front brakes on 2003 outlander. cannot find detailed repair instructions anywhere. any ideas? thanks!

Hello, to replace the front pads first open the hood and remove the brake fluid cover (will make retracting the piston easier). Next losen the lug nuts till you can turn them by hand than jack up the vehicle and use a jack support stand. Once the vehicle is supported remove the lug nuts and wheel, remove the lower caliper screw and rotate the caliper upward. Remove the old pads, use one of the old pads and place it so it centers the caliper, using a large C-clamp position it with the solid end on the back side of the caliper and rotating handle contact the pad in the center or close as possible. Slowly rotate until the piston is fully retracted into the caliper, your brake fluid may run over but its ok. Install the new pads return the caliper to the normal position over the pads reinstall the lower caliper screw. Put the wheel back on tighten the lug nuts till the wheel is evely and firmly in its normal position. Remove the jack stand lower the vehicle, put the brake fluid cover back on and pump the brakes until they are firm and check the fluid, add some if needed. Tighten the lug nuts, check for leakes. After starting the vehicle pump the brakes a few times, now the fun part the test drive :) allow you self more than normal distance to stop. Tips, I always set the parking brake when working on the front brakes, some people use a 2x4 instead of a brake pad to retract the piston into the caliper, double check your work, i always do and take your time.

Part of brake light system not working.

if the third brake light works and the bulbs aren't blown, it's usually the turn signal switch. it sounds wierd, but that's probably what it is. It is under the steering wheel and is not the easiest or cheapest thing to replace. It should fix your problem, but may hurt your wallet in the process. Guy at work paid 300 to fix his 2000 grand prix with the same problem.
