I would want to know why you think that it is running lean. Did you get a fault code from the ECU stating that the engine was running lean? The O2 sensor registers the fuel mixture to the ECU and then it changed the fuel acording to your engine needs. Is the check engine light on with a fault code? I have had a few friends use the "sea foam" or the "lucas fuel injection cleaner" to help with the O2 sensor problems. I haven't tried it myself, but they swear by it. They are also mechanics too. Hope this helps.

I have a BF MKII SERIES Ford Falcon Sedan which has a Factory fitted LPG motor. It backfires when I start the vehicle. Please let me know if it can be fixed.?

A lean mixture is causing this fault, It is important to have this repaired. if lean only on start not a big fault. if lean on running under load it will burn exhaust valves and top of pistons.

Poor acceleration and low gas mileage, smells rich at idle

You are off to a good start, MAF when it is contaminated it leans the vehicle out it doesnt make the car run rich, depending on the fuel strategy of the year make and model, and of course the engine size make all the difference, bad ignition coil make a car run rich shorted 02 sensor that lean bias make the car run rich, worn timing belt ****** timing and causes the car to run rich.so lets hear the results

Engine check light on error code 1 is P0171 system too lean bank 1 error code 2 is P0174 system too lean bank 2

P0171 system too lean bank 1
P0174 system too lean bank 2
links to information on the codes

it means that the O2 sensors in your vehicle detected a lean condition in their respective banks. this could be caused by a dirty MAF (mass air flow) sensor or a vacuum leak downstream from the MAF sensor

sometimes you can clean the MAF with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner but be sure to take it off the vehicle first. be careful not to damage the MAF while spraying the cleaner, and allow it to dry completely before installing it on the vehicle.

Rough idle vibrates and po171 code service engine soon. jamesrowland9@aol.com

Hi, a Ford P0171 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 1, and P0174 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 2. These codes commonly occur on many Ford vehicles, and are set when the powertrain control module (PCM) sees the air/fuel mixture is running too lean (too much air, not enough fuel).
When the Check Engine Light comes on, either one of these codes, or both, may be found when a code reader or scan tool is plugged into the vehicle diagnostic connector. IF the vehicle is driven long enough, typically both codes will be set.
A P0171 lean code for bank 1 is the cylinder bank on the RIGHT (passenger) side of the engine on Ford vehicles with a V6 or V8 engine and rear-wheel drive.

A lean fuel condition may exist if the engine is sucking in too much air and/or the fuel system is not delivering enough fuel. If bad enough, a lean fuel condition may cause lean misfire, a rough idle, hesitation or stumble when accelerating, and/or poor engine performance.
Unmetered air can enter the engine through a vacuum leak, a dirty airflow sensor that is not reading airflow accurately, an EGR valve is not closing and is leaking exhaust into the intake manifold, an EGR valve that is allowing too much flow (because the EGR differential pressure sensor that monitors EGR flow is faulty and is under-reporting EGR flow).
If the problem is not enough fuel, the underling cause may be a weak fuel pump, restricted fuel filter, leaky fuel pressure regulator or dirty fuel injectors.

Obd 171 - too lean. what does this mean and how

If the vehicle runs out of fuel, the air-fuel ratio is Lean and DCT P0171 is recorded. the MIL then comes on. Try clear the P0171, see it come back on.

To lean air mixture

You cannot lean out the fuel mixture without electronic modifications to the engine control unit. The mixture is controlled by the control unit which in turn is affected by several other sensors. If you believe the engine is running rich, have a professional check out the coolant temperature sensor, throttle position sensor and the exhaust oxygen sensor. These are the most common culprits of mixture issues. Electronic modifications are available for this vehicle but those same modifications may render the vehicle illegal for road use in some states and countries as changes to the fuel and emission control systems can cause the vehicle to exceed the emission control requirements. If in doubt, consult a professional workshop or vehicle performance centre.
