My taurus wont fire changed the distrbutor and coil and coil pick up but will only crank all day

I've been there, done that and have the T-Shirt for it.
It can basically be only one of several things.

If you are smelling any gasoline when you crank, then you don't have ignition but you have fuel. Kind of obvious, I know, but I have to try to cover all of the bases.

If you have ignition but no fuel, you won't smell any gas but you can check for spark by taking a spark plug wire off, leaning it on the engine metal and seeing if it sparks. If it sparks, You got ignition.

On a Taurus, one can insert the plug into the coil in such manner that one of the electrical contact prongs to the primary side (12 Volt) can be bent out of the way so that there is no primary voltage going to it. That will get you the cranks all year award.

I purchased a 1990 Lincoln Continental (built on an extended Taurus-Sable platform years ago from someone who could not get it started for a year. After working on it for a couple of days I went down with a good flashlight and discovered one of the primary contact was bent to one side. Straightened it out, plugged it in and the car started as though nothing was ever wrong.

It could be the timing chain has skipped or broken or the Distributor drive gear is out of sync.

Here is the last one. In a Ford there is an automatic fuel shut off in the trunk on the driver's side wall. It is tripped by the vibration of an accident and sometimes it likes to trip on it's own. It is behind the grey trunk covering. It has a reset button. PUSH IT.

I've heard stories of people on the verge of tears selling their beloved but very dead Taurus to some guy, who opens the trunk, pushes the button and then drives it away.

My 93 taurus turns over but no start the CCRM buzzes when the key is on and I have constant power to the coil wire when not cranking changed CCRM no help used too if I hit CCRM it would stop buzzing


Ignition control module or PCM problem or pick up coil ! The CCRM - constant control relay module just has control relays for the fuel pump , cooling fans , A/C clutch coil control , PCM power . Nothing that would make the coil fire continuosly . I would check out videos on youtube test ford ignition system's ScannerDanner gets his but kicked by an 88 150 EEC IV Ignition

I have a 2000 Taurus and it wont fire. It turns over but wont fire


Have you checked the computer for trouble codes yet ?
Could be a list of things such as the cam or crank sensors, coil pack, fuse or relay for the coil, and so on.
A mechanic would check for trouble codes then check each component for power as needed.

I have a 87 toyota pickup the motor is not turning over enough to crank it i have replaced the coil distributor starter and battery


when you crank the engine you have to check if spark plugs fire if not maybe your crank sensor is bad, thats why car wont start, your distrbutor is turning when crancking? did you cnange distributor cap and rotor?

Where is the igniton control module located at i cant find it the is a pick up coil under the distrbutor and my coil has a plug that plugs into it


In my 84 model B250, it was on the fire wall. It was a box about 1/2 thick and about 2 X 3 inch rectangle. Mine was l;ocated about center stage top in the engine compartment.

start by testing coil for power ,if no power then in the fuse panel you should have anything up too three fuses marked CONT and they should be about 10 amp ,check them

2001 f150 wont start change plugs and wires and now wont fire and wires are in correct order. can you help


Check your ignition fuse # 30, in the inside fuse box all the way on the right second from the bottom, check your coil and crank position sensor, these are responsible for spark, the crank sensor is bolted with 2 bolts next to the lower engine pulley, this is a magnetic pick up that triggers spark from the coil, if the crank sensor is good and you have no spark then the coil could be bad. What you do is take either and old sparkplug from the car or pull one from the car and connect one of the sparkplug wires to it. Then with an insulated set of pliers hold the sparkplug so the electrode is grounded. Then have someone crank the car over. This is best done at night so you can see if there is a spark. During the day however you should be able to here a spark. If not probably a bad coil.
