Question about 1999 Dodge Durango

1 Answer

I have a 1999 Dodge Durango. It won't shift out of first gear unless manually assisted. Then will shift well between 2nd and 3rd. Any ideas?

1999 DODGE DRANGO HAVEING PROBLEM SHIFTING OUT OF LOW GEAR AN SOMETIMES SLOW AOUT SHIFTING OUT OF 2ND TO 3RD IS THIS A COMPUTER PROBLEM

Hello,
There are several things that come to mind that commonly cause the issues you're having.

1. Make sure your transmission fluid level isn't low.
2. If your transmission fluid hasn't been changed in a long time, you could have some deposits
built up in the valve body, or the screening could be partially clogged.
3. You may have a faulty shift solenoid/shift motor.
4. In some cases the speed control module may be faulty.

I hope this helps you.

1999 Durango starts out in 2nd and shifts into drive fine regardless of what gear is selected. Even if 1st is selected, starts in 2nd. Reverse is fine. Will not shift into final or overdrive. Govenor...

I don't have the shifting schematics for THIS vehicle .
However, they are available in the vehicle's repair manual. If you obtain this manual look for what is common between 2nd gear, final drive and overdrive this is your problem.
Remember they source of the problem may require a rebuild of the transmission. You may want to save some time and just give it to a repair shop.

My transmission in a 1999 dodge durango is not shifting right. Between 2nd and 3rd gear it will take to long to shift. The rpm's go way up aroung 4-grand and you have to either give it more gas or let off...

i cant say for sure but we have seen alot of problem with the tcc solenoid but there are those times we found that the clutches were burnt in the transmision as well

Dodge Durango Transmission Problem

Code 0753 means Transmission 3-4 shift solenoid or transmission relay circuit problem. The PCM (engine computer) is seeing an incorrect input electrically for the gear or speed it should be seeing. You will need to find a qualified transmission shop to diagnose the problem. Possible causes for the trouble code start with worn/dirty fluid, electrical repairs & transmission overhaul.
