Use a code scanner first.. Garages are in business to make MONEY.A new gas cap cost $10 to $15.00 [ It might work ] Next replace gas valve [cost around $30 to $50 ] Next a purge valve cost $30 to $50.Cost less than $100 ,but if you put your car into a garage they will do a diagnostic test][$80 per hour],a smoke test [$75 hour] And then they will charge you $75 a hour to put the part in.And you will have to drive your car around for over 100 miles before the computer will reset itself [obc ,on board computer. Do not disconnect the battery cables to reset the code, use a code skinner to reset the code.

It could be the start of a throttle valve body problem with moist getting into your engine here is the solution. You have a build up of oil/water in the resevoir on your air intake duct, take the two clamps off, one on the throttle body, the other off the air filter box and spray the duct work with brake fluid cleaner (outside if possible) make sure you spray the resevoir, then wipe clean your throttle body with a cloth sprayed with carb cleaner. After the duct work is dry reassemble, clear your codes with a code reader and you should be good to go

You erase the engine light by fixing the problem . With every DTC - diagnostic trouble code there are diagnostic flow chart's , steps to find the problem .

2005 Chevy Malibu evap sensor won't go off after changing it. Recently had a fuel level system done on the tank.

evap sensor won't go off ? Do you mean the check engine light ? What DTC - diagnostic trouble code ? fuel leveler system done ,your funny ! Fuel gauge sending unit of fuel pump ? With the fuel nozzle shutting off like that, the air in the tank is causing that , which means there is a problem with the Evap vent solenoid or wiring to the vent solenoid . Check engine light came on then reduce engine power

When this light comes on it means the computer control module has detected a fault in the system, it has reduced power to avoid any damage to the engine or transmission. You must now have the computer scanned for fault codes, this is done through the diagnostic connector under the dash see photo below.

Location for 2006 buick rainier EVAP purge solenoid

You should have an EVAP leak test done . It could be a leaking purge valve , you could need a new gas cap as well or it could be the fuel filler neck . or assorted hoses or the fuel tank pressure sensor . If the check engine light is lit there will be a code .
DTC P0442: Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) System Small Leak Detected or
DTC P0455: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Large Leak
DTC P0446: Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Vent System Performance
You have to jack up the vehicle , the purge valve is attached to the engine behind the A/C compressor .

Code po440 evaporative emissions system & check engine light on

P04440 is a generic error code for the fuel vapour evaporative emission control system. This system is designed to trap fuel vapour build up in the fuel tank in a carbon canister and then to release these trapped vapours to be burnt when the engine is running. The car has a diagnostic process by which it checks the pressure integrity of the system. Anything out of the ordinary can result in the P0440 error. Check that your filler cap has a good seal and that it is fitted tightly. If this sorts out the problem the error code and CEL will disappear within a few restarts of the engine.

I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu. The check engine

"This indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. It means a very small leak has been detected. In fact, the leak can be from a hole as small as 0.04" in diameter. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine."
Hope that helps..
