Question about 1996 Kia Sportage

2 Answers

I have a 1996 Kia Sportage. It cranks over, no fire, fuel pump won't kick on, and hand held scanner won't show any codes and nothing is stored in the computer's memory. The check engine light was on before it quit. Already changed the crank sensor, and then unplugged each sensor while cranking it over and the computer would not throw a code on none of them.

With given info, the computer might be bad, and if the problem is sensor related it would have a hard code stored in the computer, but if the computer is bad then it might not.

Hi

if the pump is not kicking in then it is one of 3 things either the fuel relay is faulty and these do not always show a code, an immobilizer fault again sometimes wont show a code but often will if the system is factory fitted. and finally fuel pump failure. I know that these cars have major issues with fuel tanks they rot very quickly and can cause a multitude of problems in the fuel system such as rust damaging the fuel pump etc.

If you need more info get back to me.
Regards
Dan

96 kia sportage wont fire backfired once very loadly no power to tps cam or crank sensor fuel pump will turn over but wont crank

Being it is a 96. It could be many different things, electrical. Really should have the codes read. Check fuses first. No power to the cam and crank is a no start situation.

My 1999 Kia Sportage won't start. I put a new fuel pump in replaced the car battery . Need help please...

Im dealing with a similar situation. But have found that I have no spark. By opening the end of the air intake and giving a little squirt of starter fluid and no start. Opened access to FP and pulled a hose. No fuel. So no fuel no spark. reading lots and lots of forums I have come to the conclusion it is either the Cam or the Crank sensor. The crank sensor is easier to get to and cheaper. I am going to check that first.

Location of fuel pump relay on 2006 Kia Sportage

Lift the hood. Remove the cover on the fuse relay box located on the driver's side fender well. Remove the fuel pump relay from the box. A diagram on the box cover identifies the relays.

2002 kia sportage fuel pump needed replacing so we did and now car won't go

There maybe an air lock in the fuel line.
Try pouring a little fuel down the carby and then start the engine, you may need to do this a few times until the air lock is cleared.

2000 Kia Sportage won't start

My guess would be something has happened to the fuel pump in the tank. I would make sure the pump has voltage when cranking the engine to verify.
