Question about 1985 Ford F 250

1 Answer

My 1985 ford f250 diesel is messing up on me and it is giving me a major headache, okay i just got a brand new fuel pump, fuel filter, alternator, starter, two brand new batteries, the whole works on the thing and it is still having a slight problem, when i drive it down the road it acts fine at first and then it starts missing, like when i get up to about 45 miles an hour and i push on the gas it cuts in and out on it's power, sometimes it loses all power and dies, could this be just a bad injector?

No what it sounds like is you did not purge all the air out of the filter when you replaced it or you did not drain the housing properly and has water in it still.Water collects in the bottom of the seperator and when you change the filter it gets into the system.

I have a 1985 ford f250 diesel. It ran out of fuel and now I cannot start it. How can I get it started after running out of fuel

You have to bleed the AIR from the fuel system. there is a valve stem on the side of the fuel filter housing.crank engine a few turns then bleed the air. its easier with two people(1cranking engine while one bleeds the air).may have to do several times.

1985 ford f350 diesel will not allow the ignition to engage. Dash light says water in fuel. I put on a new fuel filter. Did not help. Can I bypass the sensor?

The Diesel engine doesn't have an ignition system. Also the dash light shouldn't cause it not to start? You said you changed the fuel filter right? After you started cranking it again did the lift pump fill the new filter up. I have had these before where the lift pumps go bad causing low lift pump pressure which causes the water in fuel light to be on. Did it die going down the road or did you shut it off and can't get it restarted.

My 84 ford f250 6.9 diesel. Starts and then dies and wont start.

could have a bad fuel transfer pump ( block mounted) or air getting into fuel system. This could be caused by a pin hole in the fuel lines ( supply or return) have someone crank it over for you while you press the shrader valeve on the fuel filter housing , see if you are getting fuel or air. Could also be an injection pump problem. Best thing would be to have it checked by a qualified diesel mechanic, as this could be caused by many different things. Kinda costly to throw parts at it on a guess without proper testing

1998 ford 250 diesel, changed fuel filter and now the truck coughs and chokes like gas is not getting to engine. Does it need to have the gas line bled? If so how?

did you prime the new filter (filling it with diesel) before installing if so youll have to check the pressure regulator on the fuel pump but im leaning toward the filter being reprimed.

Fuel problem, wont start

the pump is part of the filter/separator not in the tank no fuel will come out if filter is removed make sure there is fuel in the upper filter if there is the pump is ok it might be an oil pressure concern
