Either a faulty switch, or grounding out system somewhere, look for things like pennys or other debris in the seatbelt latch, interfering with the switch.

Why would srs light stay on in my mitsubishi lancer 2003 model

A common reason is that the clock spring assembly in the steering wheel has failed. Next reason is the SRS computer has a problem.

Disconnect battery and remove SRS fuse, and if your in cold weather region, ground yourself to the body to avoid static spark discharge.

2006 mitsubishi lancer, i put a book under drivers seat and it pulled srs plug apart. I snapped back together but light stayed on. Someone told me directions to reset. I needed battery anyway so I waited...

if your happy with the seat belt as it is and its operating fine, they can not force you to buy it from them. Just get the snapped plug replaced, even cheaper from a breaker, then ask for the light to be reset using there diagnostic equipment. All dealers, well most, will try for that extra buck.

I just purchased a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer yesterday and I noticed that the SRS light is on, why is it on and what should I do about it?

supplimental restraint system, air bag...car may have been in an accident and the bags were deployed and not replaced, or have been damaged (clockspring)-start by contacting the seller, or go on carfax and do a search of the VIN to see if it was in an accident. No matter what, the dealer will end up getting involved if they are not working properly, and your state may have regulations concerning the sale of a vehicle with disabled airbags.

I have a Mitsubishi Lancer, today i saw a sign: SRS on the dashboard. how urgent should i treat this? what does it mean? is it dangerous to continue using the vehicle for a short period?

The vehicle has detected a problem with your air bag system. I would get it looked at as soon as you can. It will not affect the performance of your vehicle, but get it checked because safety is number 1.
