Hi

this is very common espcially on older cars, there shold be a dust sheild on the back of the front brake discs, they often rot and start to bend in wards touching the brake disc while turning, you can bend them back out but on the most part when they are this bad they just fall off in your hand, it is only thin metal, may be tricking to see you will have to stick your head under the front wheel to have a look or may need a ramp if the car is low.

Hope this helps
Regards

Dan

I have a 99 Dodge ram 1500 5.2L stick shift and the front end is making a pulsing grinding noise at 15-30 mph, it stops as soon as I apply the brakes or turn.

1) Could be a stone or something similar between the pads and disks on your front brakes. Wheel off check the disks are they pitted, rusted or scored. Look for stones or grit between pad and disk.

2) Could be a wheel bearing, jack up the car (Securely) see if there's any play in the wheels. Try to rock them side to side and top to bottom. If there's play (movement/judder) from the hub, your bearing needs replacing.

I have a clicking noise on the front driver side wheel. Sounds like metal grinding.

It can only be one of two items, the wheel bearing or the brake pads are worn to the metal.you will need to raise the car up to "feel"the bearing fault or take the wheel off to check the pads.(rarely its a stone lodged in the pads, and has the same noise.)

My volvo v40 is making a grinding/scraping noise especially when turning. what is the most likely cause of this fault?

It sounds like you have a stone lodged in one of your wheels. They can lodge themselves between the brakes and backing plate
.Possible solution ,try reversing and slam on the brakes .This has worked for me several times. Good luck

Sounds like there is a grinding noise also the right rear wheel sounded like a rock was caught in the hub cap except there is no hub cap

Sounds like a wheel bearing. Jack it up and spin the wheel with your hand you will find the wheel turning rough and loose the stonelike rattle probably the brake disc rubbing against the pads. Just check when turning the wheel the noise is'nt comming from between the duet cover and the disc may be as simple as somthing like a small stone caught between the dust plate and the brake disc. Hope this help's Cheers

1999 Ford Windstar, Grinding Noise when brakes are pressed

Sounds like the pads are worn out and are grinding on the rotors. You will likely have to replace the pads and rotors.
