Question about 1999 Volkswagen Jetta

3 Answers

My '99 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg edition is having some problems, i have irregular idle speeds. For example when i am idling it will be normal and then almost hiccup where it will drop idle speed and then go back to normal. This also happens occasionally when i am driving, the car seems to 'hiccup' or shudder sometimes. What do i need to replace?

My 99 Jetta has the same problem...coughs at idle, will stall...and when driving, it will cough, lose power.  It "occasionally" will throw an error...fuel trim error.  I have been cleaning the injectors with fuel additives with helped some, but it hasn't solved the problem...the error comes and goes at will.

Does the problem happen when it is raining or after a heavy rain? If so, I needed to replace a coil pack of some sort located on or near the firewall. It is a black box that always ctaches rainfall from the wieldsheild.

Try spraying your mass air flow sensor with carb cleaner (jet spray).... worked for me, and I chased the problem for about a week!

Hi,
I would say don't replace anything until you have the "fault codes" read via the on-board diagnostic system.

Hope this helps. If this "fixes ya", I'd appreciate a rating for my reply, If not, please delay the rating and add a comment with any extra info you have and I will try to think of something else.

Cheers, D.

VW Jetta 2001 wolfsburg edition 4 cylinder 1.8 turbo engine is having rough idle. check engine is on and it has a code for O2 sensor. the car drives fine in high speeds. the engine has not shut off only...

It sounds like either the mixture is bad or you need a new 02 sensor. If you have never replaced the o2 sensor I would get that done anyway. Next I would get a general tune up and have your throttle body cleaned.

Try changing the ignition module thats mounted under the coil ,i think its packing up and failinig when it gets hot as this is a way that some of these bosch modules can go but normally they just go when you stop the engine but i have known them to cause this sort of fault though

What is the oil change interval for 2007 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg edition? Looked in Manual but it says to see the maintenance booklet which I do not have. Thanks!

Use synthetic quality engine oil and factory filter and change oil every 12.000 miles.

A 5W30 will work well.

For more oil information check the site of 'The Oil Guy.'

2003 vw jetta wolfsburg bogs on early acceleration

Don't know if it applies to your diesel but most later gas engined vehicles have a 'cold start' valve that supplies additional fuel to the fuel/air mix along with boosting the idle speed until some warming of the engine is sensed.
