Question about Chevrolet 1500

2 Answers

I have a 1991 Chev 1500 4X 4 pick-up. It is making a funny noise - I thought it sounded low on autosteering fluid. I checked and found a round filler cap just below the alternator on the front of the motor, driver side. The filler cap has a short (3 inch ) plastic dipstick. It says "Do not over-fill on it" but does not say what it is for. Is it for power steering fluid re-fill? Thanks Don

That is your power steering reservoir. Fill it with the engine running and warm. If the power steering has gotten air in the system it may still make a whining noise til all the air has worked it's way out.

Hi BlvdJoe. I am having EXACT same issue on my 96. I would pull on shifter and noise would quiet down. Changed fluid, no help. This weekend had a new transfer case installed and guess what... noise is STILL there! Mechanics swore it was transfer case as noise would double when pulled into 4-low. I am tearing my hair out. Sounds like the rear end differential is going out. I had a similar problem on a customer's truck, and it was the differential in the rearend. Replaced the rearend, and the noise was gone.

My parking brake light stays on and my brakes seem to be sticking as well.1995 Chev.pick-up,I pulled the rear wheels off and found I could still rotate the drum without any sticking or rubbing. Could this...

it sounds like the front brake slides/or pins are sticking i would service front calipers and apply lube where needed. For the brake light you would need to check the brake fluid level sensor turn it counter clockwise 1/4 turn and clean with brake clean if that doesn't work unplug the sensor and if light goes off replace sensor for brake fluid level. Also make sure parking brake is totally released.

You ran it low so It made the noises which was burning the fluid. Just add some more fluid. It should stop making noises but if it does you may have ran it too long without enough fluid

Sounds like a rattiling noise under the hood when im in idle but when i trun the wheel it makes a grugng sound

ck the power steering fluid level, it may be low. If it is low, you need to find the leak. Most of the time a power steering leak is the high pressure hose. You may use Automatic Trans fluid, but power steering fluid is better to use. unless your owners manual states otherwise.
