Question about Pontiac Torrent
Hi and welcome to FixYa!
One thing for sure, a faulty liftgate lock actuator. The lock actuator is surely faulty that's why it's not acting up eventhough the fuse is not blown. Have the liftgate actuator replaced and you'll be good.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Happy New Year!

You say you checked the fuses, do you know if power is getting to it, is the car on a remote keyfob, if so stand near it and keep pressing on and off to see if you can here the motor doing it's job. clicking on off, if it is then open the lift gate and spray all the mechanism with WD-40 don't be shy with it. also check the latch that the mechanism sits on as these can often move out of line with use, it could be too tight to open so adjust accordingly.
This often happens in cold weather and a little grease up is normally ample, do get back to me if you need anything further and I will tell you how to test the motor for the lock mech.
