Question about 2006 Volvo V70

2 Answers

I had the tranmission fluid changed in my 2006 v70 volvo. I have had no trouble with the shifting and no noise or whining, I just thought it was time. Drained the fluid, put new in Castrol multi vehicle import fluid and now it pops out of third gear. The mechanic said all he did was change the fluid and he also is the one who says it doesn't stay in third gear, he says I need a new transmission!??!?!!!!! I had it towed home, didn't want to drive it while this problem is going on so I haven't experienced it first hand. What could this be? Please help. He put 8 quarts back in.

this transmission has had absolutely no trouble of any kind. I drive about 500 miles a week with about half on the highway. The transmission functioned perfectly when driven to the shop. It only started popping out of third gear after the fluid change. Hard to believe that something would wear out in the space of 2 hours! Could it be something simple such as dirt lodged in something from draining the fluid but not flushing the tranny?

Was the correct fluid type added to the vehicle and is the fluid level full? I have seen many times when a trans works fine, and then starts to have an issue after normal a service procedure, and usually caused by incorrect fluid type or low fluid conditions. Have you tried to take the vehicle for a short trip anyway? Is there a light on the dash showing there is an issue?

Hi, manual transmission is very complex that is why it's hard to diagnose the problems without seeing the actual transmission with problem that is why the auto diagnose that our auto specialist provided is only the most likely possibilities that causing the transmission to pops out of 3rd gear or higher.
Manual transmission problems like this have something to do with the shift linkage or input shaft, but there are also possible causes that can only determined when the actual transmission is inspected. However, the problem is possibly cause by a faulty shift linkage or an excessive movement on the input shaft that can cause the transmission to pops out of 3rd gear or higher.
Auto Diagnose Cause: Faulty or Worn out Shift linkage or Excessive Input Shaft Movement.
The best thing to do is to seek out a reputable auto repair shop that specialized in manual transmissions and ask the mechanic to inspect and adjust first the shift linkage. If this does not solve the problem then the mechanic need a thorough investigation on the problem and this will cost you a lot before thinking of replacing the entire transmission......

Tranmission doesn't shift properly, high rpms and whining noise

The transmission fluid filter is the problem. This service should have been done at 80,000 miles. A dirty filter will cause the charge pump whine and loss of charge pump pressure will cause clutch packs to slip. Do not perform this service yourself, Its messy and not for novices. Do not drive or damage to clutch pack friction plates will occur.

I have a volvo v70 2001. The fuel door won't open. I thought there was a way to open it from inside the car, but I am having trouble.

There is. V70 means it is a wagon so it is going to be on the same side as the fuel door inside of the car. The handle is usually yellow or a neon green. Check where the jack is kept.

2002 Jeep Wrangler, had a slight tranmission leak, drained and filled-up with new fluid. Now transmission whines at least twice as loud as before. But at least the leak appears to have stopped. Any ideas?

There is air in the lines...start the jeep, pull the tranny dipstick and shift the jeep from D1, D2, D, N, R, P and back....assuming this is an automatic...and repeat until noise is gone. Don't forget to check the fluid level and replace the dipstick.

Just purchased a 2001 Volvo V70 XC wagon with auto transmission. Took it to local oil/lube shop and asked about servicing the transmission (change filter/fluid). They said that I would need to take the...

Most oil/lube shops use a process of suctioning the old transmission fluid through the fill tube. On older cars, this process can damage the transmission since any metal fragments in the bottom of the transmission pan will be "sucked up" through the system. Since they won't perform the service properly (remove the transmission pan/filter and replace the filter). This is why they referred you to a dealer. Any transmission shop should be able to service your transmission. Best of luck!
