You replace the brad pads when you start hearing a loud squeaking sounds and you will not have to replace your rotors unless the brakes do damage to them or if you are getting alot of vibrations from the brakes when you step on them.

Front wheel noise

check front wheel bearings for condition and adjustment. Check the thickness and condition of the disc pads and disc rotors.. Disc pads have a small piece of metal that scratches on the disc rotor when the pads need replacing so it may be that.

My brakes sound like they are grinding

check rear rotors and front rotors for rust buildup (flahlight helps). does the vehicle shake when you come to a hard stop? You will either need to have a front or rear or both brake job (rotors cut or replaced and new brake pads) If the vehicle is shaking when coming to a stop, its probably your front pads. If your hearing the noise from the rear its the rear pads or it you hear it from the front its the front pads. If there significant rust build up or your pads are low a brake job is recommended.

When removing the rotors on a 2007 nissan versa,

look at the rotor on the face of it. some autos have big phillips screws that hold it on, sometimes the factory puts small retaining clips around the lugnuts to hold the rotor in place. if al else fails, yes you need to remove the big nut............WARNING your gonna need an impact tool to put that back on, because it is the driveshaft that is sticking thru there and your not gonna get it to ppull back into place by hand

I am replacing the brake pads on my Kia 2007 Sedona; front and back is neeeded or just front? Took it to Kia dealer and mechanic showed me pads where very thin and needed replacement; all for $400! Heck...

If your rotors are good and fairly smooth, then a decent ceramic pad will work well. Just be aware that ceramic pads will require a slightly greater paddle pressure. They will last longer, dust up a bit less and will perform MUCH greater in stop and go traffic...

I suspect that 25 dollars per axle is a typical cost for good quality disc brake pads.

2007 Rav 4- Front Brake pad growl during stops

I had a 2008 rav4 and within the first 10,000 I noticed this problem. Had the pads changed at 12, 22, 30, all free of charge from the dealer. Had the rotors replaced as well twice, the issue came up again & since it was a lease I threatened to sue and I was released from my term fee free. If you are having the same issue post here we need to open a dialogue. I'm sure many people have just paid for repairs without thinking it's an issue on the vehicle. Toyota will deny it until it's a media issue....
