1983 ........car starts,drives a few miles and dies,gets a jump,and repeats the same,with old battery it went futher,with new battery u get less distance........i try u once for a low amt,if u solve ill be happy to support youre site and pass it around ty

This is an alternator fault.Your new battery probably was not fully charged when you bought it.Please buy a new alternator im positive that's your problem

Dangerous practice to try & jump a near dead battery

Always try charging a battery, that is only a couple years
old & not run down more than two or three times

If the battery is dead & reads less than 12 volts, have a parts
store test it or just replace it.

Jumping a cars battery is not a fix for anything,so I fail to

If the batt light is on, the alternator is not charging the battery.
If the battery won't hold a charge, it could be failing.

So what do you have for voltage at the battery? Sounds like the alternator went bad. There should be around 14 volts at the battery with the engine running. Anything less and the alternator would be the first thing I suspected.

Voltage at battery at idle is 11.9 and at2000rpm it isover 14 volts.lights brighten and heater fan motor speed picks up considerably as rpms pick up from idle to 2000 rpm and on up.load tested battery and...


Did you check the voltage after a drive or after it was jumped. The battery may need some time to recharge if it was jumped before it gets checked. Have you checked for a possible draw on the battery? This could be a reason it dies every once in a while. I think that the Alternater is on its way out, it doesn't sound like it is charging like it should. It the new belt tight enough(some new belts stretch after a short time)

sounds like you might have blown the fuse for the alternator or the wires for the alternator are dirty loose and not charging the battery right

Battery keeps draining


if your battery died while driving and the car cut off while your driving,, your problem is from your alternator!!!,, on a normal working car, you can start, remove ther battery terminals and the car would still run cause the alternator will be powering the car. In your case the alternator isnt working and the car was working on battery power therefore when the battery went dead the car cut off.. Your alternator need \s to be charging between 13.5 and 14.2 volts.. as little as 10 volts will keep the vehicle running.. I'd suggest you have the alternator replaced.

Electrical short


Your problem is pointing to the alternator. Since you say the alternator is only a year old, the I would check the tension on the belt (deflection should be about 1/2 an inch), and the belt itself. Your problem most likely lies in either the belt, belt tensioner (if applicable), or alternator.
