Question about 1988 Chevrolet S-10

1 Answer

I took the original stock stereo out of my 1988 chevy s10 pickup to put in a cd player i had lying around but didn't have the right connectors on it. When i put the original stereo back in i thought it was in right (because theres absolutely no other way for the wires to fit in the back of the stereo) but now when you turn it on the time will show and no sound will come out and then after a few seconds it just turns off.

Maybe the connectors are not completely engaged.

you can get the engine and accessories, if its fuel injection you need the computer and possibly a wiring harness, if you get a 2wd engine you may have to switch the oil pan for a 4wd(shaped for the front drive components)

you may also be able to get the 5.7l(350cid) as they are just about the same size

SOURCE: 1997 S10 pickup starts then shuts off in 2-4 seconds

when its in that not running stage or it dies you need to try and shoot a little starting fluid or gasoline into the throttle body or air cleaner and try and start it again .. If it starts then we know you have a fuel pump going out .. and its in the gas tank .. thanks Jerry and holler if you need more..

sounds like ignition module inside of distributor cap under distributor rotor button.these do go bad and can easily be replaced.strong suspicion from your details that this is the culprit.

Oil and refrigerant capacity for 88 chevy s10 pickup

There should have been a sticker on or around the accumulator with the specs.
Oil capacity is the amount drained from the old compressor, plus 3 oz. for the accumulator. Freon charge would be around 36oz or 3 cans.
You would put in 2 cans and then add until the pressure readings are within spec.

As long as the ignition key cylinder has never been changed, dealers will have records of factory key cuts going back some years. I think the cut off is 10 years but I could be wrong.

My dash lights don't work.

this got easy after a while 2 ways, i had friends who would not take the time to spend 8dollars to buy a harness connector for a new cd player and would splice everything together like takeing the red and yellow wires and connecting them all together as one. this drains ur battery unless ur cd player can completly power down by the power button not all do... but keep this in mind on GM cars the 2 wires of the same wires like purple the one with a black stripe is ground they go together stripe on stripe also there is 2 extra wires one is ORANGE and BROWN u dont need these dont even mess with them even if u have a connector block them off THESE TWO COLORS IS FOR FACTORY STEREO IF SO THESE WIRES CAN AND WILL MAKE IT SO U DONT HAVE DASH LIGHTS so always buy a connector ond dont mess with these wires block them off and dont ground them out.
