My 04 cavalier the rpm goes up by them self when you are just siting there what does that mean and how do u fix it

That can be caused by a vacuum leak, a bad idle air control valve or a bad throttle position sensor. If you do not have a check engine light yet, you probably will soon enough. All can be fixed without spending a fortune by a decent mechanic.

There may just be a burned out bulb in the dash or you may have a button not making a connection at the handbreak. The RPM issue it completely different and may have many causes.

If its only at idle and goes at about 1000 rpm then its the hydra tappet and could mean a head job so get it checked out before doing any thing more.

ya, by disconnecting the motor in the door and sliding it up by hand, then reconnecting the motor to keep it from slipping down. Or you could just fix it

A bulletin is only to help a mechanic with a known problem a safty campaign would be a free fix,But if you could confirm this bulletin applies to your problem and ypu would call GM customer assitance(phone # in your owners manual) I am sure they would help you defer the cost.

Speedometer, RPM, and Gas gauges out of whack

On the 03-05 Cavalier instrument clusters this is a common problem, it's caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board. It can be repaired though, check out this site for more on how to get it fixed - Cavalier instrument cluster repair

Where is the thermastat on 04 cavalier located?

You will find the thermostat where the upper rad hose comes to the engine. But this could be the least of your probs!!! The car has overheated several times! Right? Now you likely have a head gasket leaking! This means removing the head and have it machined! This could be very costly! Frankster016
