If the car does not call for more cooling. then it may be a bad relay in distrubution box, or a bad coolant sensor. the fans are controlled by the pcm ( powertrain control module ) it gets its info from coolant sensor. that tells how warm or hot coolant is. try the relay first it may be sticking closed. have a good new years !!

Radiator fans

I dont know what year model you have but the newer one will run when car is turned off to cool radiator. Maybe you have a radiator problem if this just started to happen. Is the car over heating. Did you check radiator fluid or thermostat. I dont know much about your car and year model but i would do these checks. Maybe radiator needs to be flushed. You can use aluminum brite for to flush. Can buy it at O Reiley's. I had to flush my daughters radiator about 10 times when we bought it used, fithy. Looks brand new. Please dispose of chemicals properly. It is an acid.

My 2001 chevy impala keeps over heating and I don't know why. I've replaced the radiator and fans recently so they are good. The fans don't turn on most of the time though. Is there a sensor that could be...

It's possible that the thermostat has gone bad. If the valve on the thermostat remains closed, it's possible that water isn't flowing to the sensor that controls the radiator fans, thus you wont get an increase is fan operation.

The good news is that a thermostat is only about $7-10, and the replacement is relatively simple. I would give it a shot. If it doesn't work, at least now you have a new, reliable thermostat installed.

The fan on my cooper s 2002 wont go on any idea why

The fan is controlled by a heat activated switch which is installed in the radiator. The switch turns a relay on which powers the fan. Locate the switch in the radiator ( in the bottom tank) and join the two wires together, this should start the fan. If it does then the switch is faulty, if is does not, check the relay and fan motor..

I need directions to change my water pump

drain engine coolant.relieve belt tension .and remove the drive belt.remove upper fan shroud.remove fan or fan and clutch assembly.remove water pump pulley and coolant hoses from water pump.remove water pump bolts.then remove pump from engine.pay attention to bolts location because they are different lenghts.clean water pump gasket mounting surface dont scratch .or pump gasket wont seal and leak .apply sealant to water pump bolts.install water pump with new gasket.if gasket paper put a sealant on it.torque water pump bolts to 30 ft lbs.if you got a 2.2L engine torque water pump bolts to 18 ft lbs.install coolant hoses on pump .install water pump pulley.install fan and fan clutch assembly.install the drive belt .and the upper fan shroud.fill the radiator with coolant.then run engine to check for leaks.WARNING AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE SO CAR WONT BE CRANK BY ACCIDENT. ALSOOOO DONT FORGET TO TURN OFF RADIO FIRST BEFORE DISCONNECTING BATTERY SO YOU WONT LOSE YOUR RADIO CODE.

Thermo fan on radiator wont turn off

It wont hurt anything if they stay on all the time cus the fan will mostly runs off your alternator. But if does bother you then it meant be the sensor on the fan. Or you can install a switch to turn the fun off and on with a toggle switch. But its up to you. But for the most part as long as the fan keeps going to cool off your radiator you should be ok. But i am thinking it maybe the sensor not telling the fan to shut off and turn on when its suppose to.
