TAILLIGHTS AND BRAKELIGHTS NOT WORKING ALSO RUNNING LIGHTI CK FUSES AND BULBS

Check the ground for the rear lights. If you have a voltmeter or test light check for power at the bulb sockets. For the tail lights, turn park or headlight switch on. For the brake lights, have someone hold the brake pedal down. Do the front park lights work okay? You really need a voltmeter to do any electrical testing. And a wiring diagram so you know what and where to test. With a voltmeter for instance, you could check not only the fuses, but if the fuses have power to them. You need to know that to determine which direction to take, back towards the battery, or forward to the switches and bulbs. To see a wiring diagram of your exterior lights, go to BBB Industries. They have a huge database of free wiring diagrams for just about every vehicle from 1986 to present year.

Headlight bulb just stopped working not blown or fuse now no headlight but brake lights and taillights work

Headlamps are separate from the rest of lights . The problem could be a wiring issue or a relay or some kind of electronic control module ! It's just one headlamp not working ? , not both . How about low beam or high beam ? I would need to know make , model an year to look at a wiring diagram to see what all is involved to make the headlamps work !

Automatic lightWiring diagram or fuse

Get a phase tester and check that you have a current running from the relay to the light, it is possibly just a new relay, which can be sourced easily, most auto ekectric motor factors would check this for you, and have the parts

I have a 1999 saturn sl1 and my tailights and dashlights quit working. i changed the fuse and it blew. so i changed the fuse again and it lasted about three minutes before it blew again. where do i start...

Okay, these are hard to find. I assume you have no problem when you do not have the Tailights on? This would mean problem could run all the way to rear taillights.

But if the problem is not related to putting power through the wires to the taillights it is under the dash area. You would have a short from the power supply to the lightswitch. You have a Relay for the lights in the Powerbox.

Go to Autozone.com Website and register your vehicle for a free wiring diagram and Powerbox layout.

You can then see for yourself about how the dashlights are grouped with the taillights. You could have a bad Relay.

Look at how the taillights get their power and this will show you a color/coded path from the front to rear of your car. As I said earlier, it is important to know if the lights only short when they are turned on by the headlight switch.

If they short out all the time, regardless of the headlight switch being on or off, then the short is more towards the front, between the dash and Relay or the Relay itself.

Use the built-in cutoff points as a way of eliminating the shorted part. The headlight switch is a cutoff point. Power rearward is halted with the except of the Brakelights. If the Brakelights work fine, the bulb sockets are probably grounded properly.

If the fuse pops with the headlamps off, the power is not going rearward and you are okay.

Taillights only turn on with the headlights, but don't turn on for braking or signals. I've checked all the fuse and relays and they are fine. Any Suggestions?

Those lights are called running lights. Have you tried new bulbs or test the wires coming into the socket for power.

Some fords have fuses for taillights, check there too.

Dash and running lights does not work, everything

The fuse to the taillights/running lights?
It can't be a grounding problem if both taillights and dash don't work.
If only taillights don't work, it would be suspicious grounding.

Have headlights but no taillights

Put in a radio lately? - you'll probably find that the fuse is blown for the dash lights; and the stereo is wired incorrectly - if no radio - then there is a control module that controls the lighting I think - put in fog lamps either? I'd bet it was either fog lights or radio incorrectly installed, or control unit. You'll find that the dash lights and tail lights are usually connected (on same circuit). Be sure to turn the key "on" and check both sides of all fuses with a test light. If that turns up nothing, then a wiring diagram and some time are required....

Taillight fuse locotion

The fuse-block is located on the left end of the instrument panel under a cover. (It should have a diagram on the inside as to which fuse controls which circuit). If it isn't a fuse,it may be a defective headlight switch.
