Question about 1995 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

Hopefully you can help with a problem we're having with a 96 Nissan D21 pickup 2.4L engine that is stalling out at low speed. We have replaced the mass air flow sensor ( Hitachi AFH55M-12 ) 3 times recently. It was what the codes were calling for. This last time it was running very lean, less than 2g/sec and would stall out. The sensor under warranty was replaced. With the newest one it runs extremely rich nearly 8g/sec. If, I understand right it should be at ~ 4g/sec. Do you think it could still be the mass air flow sensor? The ones we've tried were remanufactured. Should we try a new one? One thought was the manifold absolute pressure sensor, but there is no code showing. Also, replaced throttle position sensor. Thought about the engine control module, however would it read the extremes on the fuel flow if it was defective? Unfortunately, although not all bad ,we have gone through the entire fuel/electric system grasping for answers. We would appreciate any advice and guidance you can give us. E-mail obermiller5@bellsouth.net or my cell # is 828.606.7478. Sincerely, J.D. Obermiller

96 nissan 4cyl pickup. 250k miles. idle rpms normally at 700-800 at operating temp idle. rpms suddenly dropped overnight to 300-400 rpms.

If it was doing it when cold I'd say definitely, but your problem is when warm right? Maybe throttle position sensor? The ICV is pretty expensive ($85 and up). Just to take it our of the equation maybe clean it. I've never done mine, but Googling it, it doesn't look overly hard. Hopefully you have a garage or better weather than I'm having today!!. Good luck. Hey, when you figure it out come back and let us know what it was.

I have a 1984 nissan 720 pickup truck that i noticed idles high when stopped, then the idle goes low then high and back and forth. What is causing it?

Engine stalling and rough run issue at low speeds

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control
