No, re-timing your engine would only be necessary if move the distributor.
The Harmonic Balancer is aligned to the crankshaft by a keyway. In can only be installed in one position.

Hope this helps.

Oil leak around harmonic balancer

probably the crank seal that the balancer runs against to keep the oil in the motor. you will have to pull the balancer off then pry the seal out and tap the new one into the timing cover. take a look to make sure as it could be the oil pan gasket. clean area and run car until you see oil coming out.

Dodge 318 v8 coolant leak

It could be coming from the timing cover. On older 318 engines there is a water passage on each side of the timing cover between the pump and the block. If the timing cover decays it can allow coolant to leak into the timing cover, which usually goes into the crankcase.

How to put a water pump on a dodge stratus 2004

The water pump is timing belt driven .so wil need to remove the engine mount, the timing belt cover and the crankshaft pulley (harmonic balancer). Then you will loosen the tensioner . Now u can remove the belt . Might need to remove the alternator and it's bracket so that the water pump will come out.

1990 Jeep Cherokee with L6 4.0 engine. The sleeve that is on the harmonic balance came off. Does harmonic balancer have to be replaced or is there a sleeve kit available that can be put on the existing...

I dont think its repairable. Once they come apart, u have to toss it. Anything is "fixable" but its not worth your time or energy. It will definitely fall apart again. Now's your chanch to put in a performance one. If $$ is an issue, get one from the wrecker.

I have a 1987 Dodge Ram 50 sport 2.6 litre the head gasket is blown how do i get the timing chain off to replace the gasket

You have to remove the oil pan - harmonic balancer - timing cover to replace timing chain... to replace cylinder head gasket and not the chain -- you need an assistant to hold the camshaft gear with chain on it. Suspending it with wire to keep the chain from moving the timing (do not let the chain relax as it will come off the crankshaft gear and change the timing)

What is the trick to removing the harmonic balancer on a stratus

Theres no trick. It has to be cocked or something from all the pulling. Try tapping it back on, use spraylube on the crank and try again. Good luck.
