Hi

sounds like one of 4 things

1 weak battery
2 altenator struggling to charge, may be faulty or 3 the belt may be loose and need adjusting
4 poor earth from the car battery to the car body, thats the black or brown wire, check the earth is secure to the cars body.

Regards
Dan

My opel Corsa lite Revs itself while idling or when I press the clutch while driving. The rpm stays @ 2.. What is the cause of this

A similar thing happend to me turns out it was the idle rev cold switch thing>
basically the switch which provides more fuel and revs when the car is cold, so that when you start the car it doesnt just die off.
the switch itself is a bit mechanical and is perhaps jammed on the full on position. If it happens more when the car heats up. then it is this switch.

what you can do is start your car one cold morning and see how high the revs are, if its still high then its probablly not the switch

I have a 95 eclipse and its over heating and it rev's really high and it really hard to go into gear and its 5 speed what could it be

Sounds like intake is sucking to much air could be a bad gasket, making it idle so fast, and it overheating could be several things, could be no antifreeze in radiator, could be waterpump, could be headgasket, cracked head, stuck closed thermostat, valves need adjustment, alot of things could cause overheating even out of time

Not much heat if fan is on high, better heat on 2nd speed, rev engine to 4000rpm very good heat on high, Replaced thermostat, replaced water pump, same problem, waiting for gasket to dry before I rev engine...

There is air trapped in you cooling system. Applying vacuum to the cooling system with the engine off through the radiator or surge tank should extract the air pockets in the heater core.

Rev limiter is at 6000rpm not 8500rpm

Hi Peter,

With such high revving engines (me being a Honda fanatic) you need to keep an eye on oil levels. Check the level, top up as necessary. Without the correct amount of oil in, the oil pressure cannot stimulate the switch over cam, which takes it to 8500rpm.

Also, please don't rev you car without load (ie. standing still), this causes valve lash and is detrimental to the engine. Again, please do not rev your car hard without letting the oil get up to temperature or it won't last long :)

Once you check your oil, reset the ECU by pulling the battery lead off for around 20 minutes.

Good luck and have a blast. Could you vote for me if this helps you. Thanks.

wierd not normal. are you sure you have eased off the throttle enough just before you dip the clutch, diesels can lag slightly, is it a turbo? turbo could create even greater lag

Audi a4 1999 When I start the car in the morning it rev's high for a few minutes and then when it drops i can drive. what do i need to fix this problem ???

How high does it rev? It's supposed to hold around 1200RPM until the cats heat up (the secondary air pump causes this) to help with cold start emissions.

Choke coming on even in summer, is this right

it seems that your coolant temp senor is what causing this to happen it's natural inless it revs really high and stays above 1100 rpm's after the engine heats up.

REVS TOO HIGH WHEN COLD...........

High RPM is by purpose. Reason is to get engine hot as quickly as possible to reduce emissions. There is nothing to worry about. I am sure if engine is warm/hot then you wont see high RPM even if you resart it.
